Default Are you shopping less because of the US economy?

This is just a question really based around the biggest news happening in America as of late. I can definitely say that because of the falling of major banking corporations I have been thinking of keeping my wallet shut, paying all debts/bills and trying to save for that rainy day because we can't really be so ignorant to think a depression will never happen again. They always say history repeats itself and as a generation (as a few generations now), we never experienced the depression and so we can't fathom what it was like but what will happen if we are forced to? That's going to hit a lot of people pretty darn hard...I personally am going to cut down my shopping until things start looking up again.

Although window shopping never hurt anyone. :)

I can honestly say that I have been shopping way way less because of the economy. I'm only 21 but I have never had to really watch where and how I spent my money until now. Each month I have to sit down and figure out how much I will have to spend on "anything" after my car payment, gas etc. Gas has really hit me hard because I never really worried about it. Now it is so expensive and important, it's crazy. It has been really hard for me this past year and now because after losing our house to the fire and having to replace things and just wanting to shop in general I have been having to really be careful in how I spend.

Post Re: Are you shopping less because of the US economy?

In essence I think we're already creeping into a depression. I havent been making big purchases though. But I think that cutting back on spending in general is gonna make the economy worse as there wont be profit for companys and etc. What i do agree with is paying down debt cuz that will ultimately help everyone. We too have been saving for that rainy day, we've already reached our goal as to how much we need for several months of payments and stuff but it doesnt hurt to keep putting $$ away. On the gas issue it does hury my wallet but Im in no position to be buying another vehicle and what can we do about it, itss a necessity.

    No not really.

Although, while browsing Bag Bliss' statistics, I've noticed that people in general are buying less full retail items and shopping the sale sections and sample sales.

Not because of the economy per say. I just don't have any money.

Wait a minute! If you don't have any money, unless you are truly disenfranchised, you are on the fringe, and a sign that the economy is faltering. That's my brother's situation, and he isn't aware of it either.

That said, I have been avoiding stores because I don't want the temptation.

My shopping habits haven't changed because of the economy. I am slimming down because we have things planned that we need savings for. So instead of $300 on shoes, I put that into one of the savings accounts.

Not really. I try to shop sales and things, definitely, but I've gotten really bad at saving...

I had been shopping quite a bit recently because our currency had been strong against the US dollar, but I'm slowing down now because it's moving towards it's historical average and also, cause I have gotten most of what I want now. But I feel that I've been quite enterprising in that I've sold and replaced and used some tax refund.

We are going on two overseas trips between Oct and Jan, so that expenditure is unavoidable, but I think we won't be shopping like mad.

LOL! No, I'm just a starving college student... that had a buy another car rather unexpectedly.

I've always been careful how I handle my money. I save up for handbags, clothing, accessories, and everything I BUY has always been in cash, I don't own not one credit card. So to answer the question, I've done slightly less shopping, but I haven't cut down much.

Me too - I'm trying to pay off my credit card, and trying to pay about $300 a monthon it, on top of my car payment, student loan, car insurance, and $90/month for parking in my deck. I still buy things, but since I can't spend a lot on a bag right now, I'm just waiting. Not because of the economy, but because I want to pay for the things I need to first.

I hope that the next president we have really figures out what to do with this whole situation. The debt we've incurred in the past 8 years is insane, and we need someone to put us first, and not big business or other institutions that don't really help out the general population. How can the banks be in good standing when our country is in the biggest debt than any other?
