    Default Shopping Poll

Okay this is kind of a shopping question so I thought I would put it here.

Okay. I got off the phone with someone and I am going to get a little bit of unexpected money. With part of this money I kind of want to buy something for myself - like a Kate Clutch or something under $600.

Hubby thinks I need to save it for Christmas (the money) ... but with what I am getting I could buy my christmas present (montorgueil pm), the Kate Clutch, a laptop, 3 tickets to Ft Lauderdale, and pay off medical bills plus have quite a bit left over (under $5K)

I think I want something because it is coming to me, not us. He thinks I am being ridiculous. He thinks I need to save it all because of the economy (I am sorry but...if I lost my job tomorrow or something this would not be enough to hold us through...it would get us through maybe an extra 2-3 months...and what difference does that really make?)

It's not like I want to go blow $3,000...I am just talking about a simple accessory...

    What do you guys think?

I think if the money is coming to you then you need to make sure that you buy what you want!! Right?
I remember a month or so ago you were not going to have enough money to get the bag you wanted and take the family trip. Now i think that this is the answer to your problem.
Buy the bag you want, take the trip and then put the rest in savings for something that you want later...or if there is a bill you need to pay off.

Of course it would be ok for you to get something for yourself because the money is coming to you and not your husband. I understand his concern and all, but at the same time I agree that it won't make a difference since you're not going to be blowing a bundle.

You seem very responsible with money so i don't see where there is an issue. So, with that said, if you have some extra money coming to you and you want to buy yourself something nice, then you should.

Were there any other things you had your eyes on?!

Your husband sounds like mine! LOL! That's so funny! Let's see... I guess if it were me, I'd probably want to focus on paying some things off first. If there was money left over, then I could justify buying myself something small. But I would probably do something in the $200-$300 range. That's just me though.

If the money is coming to you, the fair thing to do is get something for yourself and then put a little bit aside for bills/savings. Sounds like you'll have plenty left over anyway.

we dont have any bills that aren't already covered with our earnings... So this is like an unexpected extra...

I will have a vote thread about what I will buy, if I do buy it...

I will drop the issue until my check is in my hand...

Does anyone else feel guilty when they want to buy themselves something? (This question doesn't apply to Alicia... Haha j/k)

I feel guilty, but only because I know my husband would be totally pissed.

maybe i'm a selfish person (i'd like to think not, lol) but I feel that I work really hard and deserve a little something every once in a while... we get so wrapped up in work, school, children, bills..blah blah blah! that we forget about treating ourselves!

so, no. Actually, I feel guilty if I should've spent the money on something more important like bills.. but since you said those are taken care of...shop!

with my hubby he's more like... "you never used to care about material things!" but, I did... But I never said anything because at the time he was supporting me and I was finishing school...

I dont know... I just want to treat myself... I know he'd be okay with a Coach accessory or something... On sale... But he thinks the louis vuitton is for Christmas only... I saved 5 months for Marilyn... And he was proud ... Idk...

I am blabbering... I will hush up now!

I always feel guilty. But it doesn't stop me. Well, it does a bit. Basically I'll buy one pair of shoes instead of two. Or I'll put down the pair that I know I have a pair very similar to at home.

^^Exactly the point he is trying to make. Material things shouldn't be happy...I should just be happy to have my health, wealth, and family.

I'm just teasing you. I think it's great that you treated yourself. It's not liek you could have invested that money or actually done something better with it with the economy the way it is. If you would have invested that much in the stock market, you probably would have lost it...

Which is my whole point with DH. What good will $600 do? come on. We get .25% interest on our checking account...yes, a quarter of a percent. In one year, that $600 would yeild $1.50 and the price of the LV would probably increase by $15. So I am investing. Sort of.

I would like to blow some of the money, then save the rest ... I could do the plane tickets, buy h im the laptop he wants but won't buy because he says we "don't have the money" (we do. He's paranoid. Plus, I get a super discount on Dell computers through the AICPA), buy myself the treat, buy my Christmas gift and my stepkids Christmas gifts, and have more than $2K left.

I have zero CC debt, and zero debt really that is in my name...I worked hard and paid off our car and my truck, and some stuff that hubby had (all income-producing low interest debt...not consumer CC debt) - this is not normal, and definately un-American so I want to spend frivoulously dammit.
