    Smile Back from NY

So I went to LV on 5th ave and they didn't have the bags that I was mostly leaning towards. The SA told me that Macys had one cabas piano and two lockit horizontals. And he also said everywhere was sold out of the palermo pm, which ended up being false since Macys had a ton of them in stock. But anyways, I was really disappointed and decided to go to Macys because I had been waiting FOREVER...as you are all aware, lol.

My BF wanted to make me happy and took a cab with me to Macys. He also helped me decide by telling me what he liked and disliked as i tried them on. And I had the sweetest SA there, which helped.

Here is a break down of what i tried on and how i liked it:

cabas piano: for some reason, i was stuck on this one - don't now exactly why. my bf and SA thought it was too plain. but i loved it.

palermo pm: i really liked this bag and all but the bottom drove me insane because it was too wide.

montorgueil: tried on both sizes and i thought the gm looked better. only this i didn't like about this bag was the small gold plaque on the front because it didn't seem LVish to me...

lockit horizontal: tried it on and thought it was a bit wide but i thought the size was great for what i was looking for

    So.....

I ended up getting the cabas piano. they charged 6% sales tax and that stupid increase was also already added... omg - it is now $1,040 after the increase (insane!) But then I changed my mind when my BF reminded me that I wanted a bigger bag for boating season, trips, etc that didn't look like luggage. I called back the SA and exchanged it for something else.......

Anyways, you'll have to wait and see what I got. It should arrive early next week I'll post pics as soon as she gets here!

This is also another product you might like for the handles...

    My guess is Cabas Mezzo!

I don't have any suggestions for caring for Vachetta, but would love to hear them as well.

The manager at an lv store I went to said you don't have to do anything to the leather and that within 90 days it will reach its final color

    ^^^ Hmm... I didn't know that...

Well, I decided to leave my vachetta on my lockit horizontal... naked! No oils or protectors. So far its good... and Magic Erasers work on denim transfer and water marks... and she's getting a bit of color already...

I just don't like it when there's gross black finger marks on the handles. Patina is just fine, but when it has black finger marks it just looks dirty to me.
Alicia - I would say to use the Lovin My Bags product.

o Alicia - the suspense!! i hope you liked NY. ah that Macy's is insanity - can't stand it. here's a little hint though, next time anyone is in NY, take the LIRR to Garden City and go to Roosevelt Field Mall. That's my hometown mall and they just re-vamped their LV store. I was there about 3 weeks ago and WOW what a crazy huge selection!!! Also, I think Nassau County taxes are less than NYC.

i've seen some newer vachetta start to turn greyish from dirt (without the patina) and it looks so bad. and i agree with you on the black marks/black patina looks nasty. i want mine to be a nice honey brown color, ya know? i'm going to order some For Handles Only and just be extra careful with how i handle the vachetta...

Thanks Jen!!! Yeah, i've been so busy with my new job. They have me working all sorts of weird hours. I can't wait to get back on my normal third shift routine!

I thought the patina never stops(?). but perhaps i am wrong... omg...that reminds me. i could not believe how light the vachetta was. it was so much lighter than i remembered. i love it brand new, but i look forward to the patina setting in!

who knows. I have read these posts and got so scared about the patina on my marilyn that I took her back to ask and he just said they dont recommend product for them... But then again he's a dude

I like the lighter leather and am extra careful... I try not to touch the handle too much with my fingers and carry the bag on my arm or shoulder depending on the shirt I am wearing

I am going to get a montorgueil instead of a speedy for that reason alone so I dont have to touch the handles

^ i like the montorgueil. it is such a comfy bag. and from the website, the gm looks bulky but it so isn't! that's a good choice!
