Well since I've noticed that I'm not the only one who's on a shopping ban, I decided to open up a "support thread" for those of us that are on these bans. So I'll start...
Hi...my name is Susan and I'm a shopaholic. ("hi susan...").
My ban this time is only till April 5th. I got a heavy credit card debt that needs to get taken care of - it's an easy goal to pay it off by June but with the additional shopping - I'm not making matters any better. So since I know I have to go back to NYC for a friend's wedding with my boyfriend on April 5th, I'm not buying anything until then.
It hurts!!! Withdrawals are already in effect. I'm shaking and can't sleep at night and it's only been 5 hours.
Anyway - I plan on working out more to get my mind off of it. Spend more time at the gym, less time at the stores and online stores.
Hi Susie. I feel your pain.
I'm in the same boat right now. My dh and I just hit NYC for the weekend (our anniversary) and I was so good. We didn't even go to Century21, which is my mecca.
It's so hard to not internet shop though. It's just so available. Especially when I should be in our gym room, working out. Like now. LOL Instead, I'm playing Jewel Quest, working on organizing for taxes and combing the board.
On an up note though, I will be going through my closet in the near future and clearing out some bags. So I should be able to put away some of that money. If it all sells.
Susieq, I feel you pain about the debts. I just cleared all my debts last December, yup I am completely debt free.
And now when I buy stuff I use cash and if it is online thing I use the credit card and then immediatley go and pay it, this also helps me not to over spend.
I am so proud of myself. I went onto the Splendid sale and put $500 in my cart. I then closed the computer and walked away. My husband laughed at me. He just doesn't get it.
Ohhhh Maevyblue - I do the SAME THING. It makes me feel as if I did something...ya know? hahaa. oh well.
if anyone cares - i just made $63.00 from the AirBorne class action suit - check out on google about it. You can get reimbursed for up to 6 packs without a receipt (between May 01 and Nov 07...too bad i just bought another package of it last week).
Oh well - I think what really bothers me about shopping bans during sale time is that i KNOW i am going to pay full price for that same shirt in about 2 months...i bet you!!!

Haha, great idea!!!! Ya know, I've actually been pretty good though. I use to go shopping every weekend but now I go maybe once a month. And I have only bought sale items within the last 2 months. I haven't bought myself anything really nice in a while. The two credit cards i got are sitting in my wallet, unused...oh, except for one that i used to pay for dinner and will pay off immediately! And i was so tempted to use those cards!
As for internet shopping, I'll see something that I really want to have, put it in my cart and then I usually don't end up getting it! It kinda gives me a little satisfaction and holds me over until the next time, lol!
I might be joining the shopping ban after my trip to NYC!
haha...well jadore - it's sorta like when you go on a detox. you need to ween yourself off food, detox and then ween yourself back on...starting slow and easy.
well that's how i'm doing it. :)

I think this is also an important part of taking good care of yourself-- taking back control of your financial life. Then, when you do decide to buy something later, you'll feel like it's such a special treat, not just routine shopping. Good luck susieq; you can do it!
Oh yeah, good luck to Jadore and everyone else too! You CAN *choose* to buy, or *choose* not to buy. It doesn't have to be out of your control-- not forever. Your money is power and it shouldn't be taken or given lightly. YOU are worth more than that!
