Default Strangers Paying off Your Debt?

This is not really anything new but it was brought up to me again today and I have to say - I don't agree with it. I shop...I'm a shopaholic...but I'd never beg strangers for their money to pay off MY debt. I pay off MY debt...simple as that.

This woman was in $20,000 in debt from shopping. Yep... $20k and in her early 20's. Well she made this site: http://www.savekaryn-originalsite.com/
Ended up getting a total of $13,000 in contributions from total strangers. Really?! That much?! It blows my mind. It makes even ME want to start a webpage begging - but my moral judgement steers me away from that.

Now she apparently has 2 books out and a possible film in the works. I don't know...something really bugs me about that. There are so many hardworking people that wouldn't think of begging - but they don't rise no matter how hard they try. Hmph...just a little brain candy I suppose. And maybe a little venting. :)

You know, I'm actually not against what she is doing. She is 100% honest and says everything like it is. There are no secrets or scams here. If people choose to give her money, then that is their decision. But it's still not right to be irresponsible and accumulate that much debt and then expect someone else to pay for it. I guess my main point here is the fact that she is honest about it because who would LIE about being in that much debt anyways???

I think this is sick, I would rather give my money to the orphans or homeless, she brought this on to herself and she should be paying it off!

in all fairness - now that she's "famous" and has money from her 2 books and potential movie deal - the $13,000 she accumulated from donations will be going to a charity. however - it's been since 2003 and STILL she hasn't picked a charity (i don't think)

Okay, so I have to ask...I've been to your website. Was it created before or after you saw hers? I think it was pretty creative how you flipped her idea...

I don't think it's a bad thing...If people choose to give you money that's their decision to make.

Maybe I need to start a site where people donate so I can get my PhD (after I finish my master's of course). You have to totally quit your job to do it, and so you go from making a good living to maybe 20K plus working your butt off. You lose your retirement contributions, health insurance, and some of the best earning years of your life...

If just 200,000 people gave me $1 each, I'd be able to keep up my standard of living for a few years.

Wait...that sounds sick and twisted. Aksing for money...not my thing. But if it works and you don't lie about where the money is going...MORE POWER TO YOU.
