When you go to H&M's Jimmy Choo section of their site, you can look at all their shoe styles. When you hit INFO, there is a couple sentences about how leather soles, and heel tips, should be "replaced" before you wear them.

HUH? I don't understand, "replaced" sounds like cutting the whole sole off and putting a sturdier one on. Do they make the sole of the shoe so delicate that it needs to be replaced even when it's brand new?

Can anyone attest to having done this, and maybe you can explain to me why...

Its a protection thing as well as a repair issue. I had red textured soles put on my brand new Christian Louboutin shoes. Just the sole, not the shank. I didn't want the bottoms to get scuffed up and lose the color. They are actually easier to walk in too as they aren't slippery.

Replacing the heel taps and sole is easy and cheap and can make an old pair of shoes like hew. I'm certainly no "shoe repair expert" but that's from my own experience.
