Default Does your office have a Dress Code?

    Hi everyone -

We just got a new office manager and she sent out this email of her new proposed Dress Code.

ďAll employees should wear appropriate corporate attire. Men shall wear coats, ties, slacks and appropriate footwear, which does not include athletic shoes or shoes without socks. Women shall wear professional and conservative attire, such as dresses with stockings and / or jackets, suits or pantsuits (with appropriate tops), and appropriate footwear, which does not include sandals, athletic shoes or any open toed footwear. Minimum 3 inch heels are recommended but not required."

I am wondering - do most offices have a dress code? I have not worked in a job with a dress code before so I really don't know what to think - Does this one seem fair to you?

hm.... i think it's depends on the company's nature, if you are working for a CPA firm, law firm .. which requires you to socialize with client a lot, that's fair.

I don't work in an office, but most professional work places do have guidelines on what you can or cannot wear. It's all about the image the company wants to portray

Wow, that's strict! What sort of industry are you in? I've never worked in an office with a dress code. In advertising, you can pretty much wear anything. I don't think I've worn a suit for years and that's for a job interview.

Every job I've had in "corporate america" has a similar dress code.

Ours does. No jeans, flip-flops, etc.
I don't know how enforced it is though. I'd rather see someone in ripped jeans than I would some of the plunging necklines and too-short minis I see occasionally.

Oh yes, they do and I hate it sometimes. Especially in summer, I would like to wear sandals or jeans sometimes. Dress black pants and closed toe pums are hot, literally.
