Re: whats every one doing?
FedUp - You have an environmental studies background, right? Were you able to get a job with just a bachelors degree? Or did you have to continue your education?
It just seems like I'm not qualified for anything.

Re: whats every one doing?
Bachelors in ES can get you jobs...don't be disheartened. My bachelors is in living sciences (chem, botany, zoology), i then did a Masters in Ecology and then a second Masters in Urban Planning with environmental focus. However, currently i just do straight forward planning.
The places you should look for jobs is government entities. There aren't too many private entities in environmental field. Check any larger local govt. unit in your area, their planning dept. may have positions for environmental sc. graduates. Also check FEMA and EPA, National Park Service websites. Use your search keywords as 'green' 'brownfield' and similar stuff.
Think about applying to a local zoo (larger ones). they have environmental sc. grads on their staff for ecosystem management and habitat related things.Last edited by FedUp; April 7th, 2010 at 03:11 PM. Reason: added info.

Re: whats every one doing?
I'm actually a biology major/environmental studies minor. I looked at all of the state jobs and everything that is available right now either wants a masters degree or a minimum of 2 years experience doing such and such work. I have looked at a variety of company websites that my school's career office suggested with no luck. Jobs seem really hard to come by at the moment and the ones that are available want someone with much more education/experience. I haven't looked at the zoo yet, but most of the people who work there are volunteers (it's a small zoo).
EDIT: Just looked at the zoo's job listings, they just have concessions positions open.

Looking at these fresh bunny scratches on my wrist and now wondering if people are going to think I'm suicidal or something.

Re: whats every one doing?
Reading this weird e-mail about teaching in China. Sounds like a scam to me.

This gives every teacher a lot of free time to travel and relax. The pay is good for China and all teachers are supplied with a free apartment. The cost of living in China is unbelievably low. It is a traveler's and shopper's paradise. The lifestyle of a teacher in China is very relaxed. Most classes are just basic conversation

Re: whats every one doing?
Just got back from biking to the Brooklyn Bridge and back. It's 3.5 miles from our apartment, 7 miles round trip. We have fixed gear bikes with no brake so it's harder to ride than a regular road bike, but so much more fun :)

Re: whats every one doing?
Textlatina, that's too funny. I'm the same way, haha. Window shopping can be extremely dangerous. Which is why I purposely leave my debit card at home.
What did you get btw?
Vidya, but you walked 1.5 miles! lol. So at least you squeezed an exercise in there.
Alex, a nice long bike ride sounds so nice right now. How was the weather?
As for me, I just ate a big bowl of Sour Cherry Gelato.. so I'm off to the gym in a few. Omg, I'm going to be in a swimsuit in less than 2 weeks. So not ready..
