3.1 Phillip Lim Pashli Iridescent Patent Leather Bag
Phillip Lim Iridescent Pashli Bag.jpg
Whenever I see dark iridescent handbags, I tend to shy away a little bit. I just can't help it. The rainbow of colors dancing across a dark patent surface reminds me way too much of an oil slick. But when I came across the Pashli in iridescent patent leather, I decided maybe it would be in my best interest to look at this from another angle. After all, iridescence can be found in nature. And to me, that is a beautiful thing.
Is it okay if I get a little science-y on you? In nature, iridescence is created by something called structural coloration. This is when microstructures (too small to see with the naked eye) interfere with light. Iridescence is caused by multiple reflections from two or more semi-transparent layers. It is pretty neat when you think about it. Insects are excellent examples of this. I have seen some gorgeous iridescent beetles. If I think of iridescent handbags in the same manner, then I am able to appreciate their beauty a little more...
