![]() Designer Zara Bag Pulled from Store Shelves! What was Spanish fashion brand Zara thinking when they designed a handbag with a swastika on the print? Fashion brand Zara is in hot water after a customer pointed out that their latest fall bag is decorated with embroidered bicycles, flowers and a SWASTIKA. As well as being the Nazi symbol, the swastika is also a religious symbol for Hindus and Buddhists. After pulling all the bags from store shelves as well as from their online catalog, a spokesperson for the fashion chain quickly released a statement of apology: “We did not realize swastikas appeared on some of the bags. Of course we apologize to anyone who was offended by the bag, and we will be withdrawing it from all our stores.” … “some of the bags”

hehe silly. i did a project for graphic design course using swastikas that i had taken a picture of because they were layed into the brick construction of a building in a Wyoming ghost town. it's interesting to see what graphics/symbols mean to us all and how they can be turned around from a good luck symbol (like what the swastika was meant to be) to a devastating genocide

i doubt they had "support mass jew genocide" in mind when they created this bag.
if people did their history lesson beyond what we're familiar with, the swastika actually means "well-being" and "good luck." unfortunately the nazis decided to take a beautiful religious symbol and exploit it out of context. with all due respect towards the jewish, they should bring the bag back and use it to inform people about its original meaning. well, that probably wouldn't work, i'm sure many jewish people carry a lot of hatred for that symbol... Its unfortunate cuz i think the bag is totally hot.

Alisha is right, I doubt they meant to offend anyone. They were probably thinking "religious symbol" rather than "Nazi symbol". I don't think they would be able to get away with bringing it back though... someone walking down the street carrying that bag would probably get stoned.
