[This week while shopping at the RueLaLa’s bag blowout sale, I came across this gorgeous berry red hobo handbag by Junior Drake. I did not really know anything about the brand but was floored by the color and bought it on an impulse. While waiting or the bag to be delivered, I researched and found that the muse for Junior Drake handbags was an African American stage actress by name Patsy Brown, whose stage name was “Junior Drake”. She believed that “beauty and character are demonstrated by a person’s actions. The dress, the shoes, the handbag, are merely expressions of our beauty”. Junior Drake is committed to inspiring women to understand and appreciate who they are on the inside and have launched an “It’s the Girl campaign”.

Got the bag today, and I must say, it is spectacular. Made from soft Italian leather with gorgeous gunmetal hardware, tassels and a beautiful satin lining with black and white prints of Patsy, the bag is a perfect fall accessory. The leather has a glazed sheen to it and is amazingly spacious inside. While not visible in the pics, the bottom fills out and makes the bag rest comfortably on a surface. The only criticism I have, if at all, is the short drop handle. It is designed to be carried on the arm and may make carrying on the shoulder a bit challenging if you are wearing thick coat.

While not as well known as some of the other brands, if the other Junior Drake bags are as good as the Athena Hobo, it is a matter of time before they gain popularity like RM or Treesje. Some of their styles have been featured in Instyle, Oprah, Lucky, People, OK and Genulux magazines. The Athena Hobo retails for $358.00. This and other Junior Drake bags are available at Nordstrom, Bloomingdales and Anthropologie stores.
