Art in Action, an exhibition of the work of five celebrated New York graffiti artists will be on display at the Lord & Taylor’s flagship store July 9th through July 27th. And in keeping with the spontaneous nature of the medium, Wilfredo Feliciano, aka BIO, Hector Nazario, aka Nicer, Sotero Ortiz, aka BG 183 and the twins Raoul Perre, aka How, and David Perre, aka Nosm, will complete the installation of their murals LIVE in the Fifth Avenue windows of the New York landmark, July 9th.

‘We are excited to showcase the work of such talented practitioners of an emblematic New York art form this time of the year when there are so many visitors to our city from all over the world, “ says LaVelle Olexa, Senior Vice President, Public Relations. “Their colorful murals portray the free spirit of our city with all its characteristic exuberant energy,”

The murals displayed at the Lord & Taylor windows depict a dazzling mix of graffiti forms and fashion imagery in the brilliant colors typical of the attention grabbing style of the genre. The five artists are members of Bronx-based TATS CRU, a group of New York professional muralists whose work in aerosol has transformed graffiti into an art form as well as an advertising medium. What began as an adolescent hobby in the mid ’80s, has evolved into a powerful, expressive style that has spearheaded the battle to change people’s perception of graffiti as legitimate artistic expression. Their elaborate idiosyncratic work has received international recognition and is included in such prestigious collections as the Smithsonian, also adorning the walls of hospitals, museums, schools and businesses, while being used by many companies aiming to appeal to contemporary urban sensibilities. TATS CRU has been featured in such films as Sean Connery’s Finding Forester, Robert DeNiro’s City by the Sea, and Spike Lee’s Clockers, as well as in numerous documentaries, included TATS CRU: The Mural Kings, and Television programs as varied as “The View”, “CBS Sunday Morning”, “NBC Evening News”,“ BBC News”, and BET’s “Rap City”. The members of TATS CRU have been the subject of many newspaper, magazine and book articles. The group has appeared on National Public Radio and lectured at MIT.
