Default Rebecca Minkoff to Launch Upscale Accessory and Handbag Collection

Rebecca Minkoff's trendy handbags are a sidewalk fashion staple (her semi-annual sample sale, for example, has been known to draw serious crowds) and a veritable goldmine for mega-retailers like Saks Fifth Avenue. It's no surprise, then, that the chain requested the designer create an even higher-end collection exclusively for their stores.

Launching this week, the simply-titled Rebecca Minkoff Collection will consist of familliar Minkoff handbag shapes updated with ritzy accents, like rose gold hardware and luxe calfskin leathers. We're especially loving the simple brown clutch with python trim and big geometric buckle. Of course, customers will pay for the upgrade: typical Minkoff prices range from $195 to $695, but the new line cranks up to $2000.

Minkoff will be touring eight Saks locations in the next two and a half weeks to promote the new collection, meeting fans and even autographing bags on request. You can read up on her travels and design inspiration on her blog www.minkette.com

In my opinion her bags are too trendy for me to spend that much on one of her bags. I would never.. And that bag above ->

This one is kinda cute... but I don't think it's worth the higher price tag.

Ugh at RM's failed attempt at being a "higher end" designer. If she wanted to have $2K price tag on her bags, she should try something different. Not take her old styles and just throw in a few embellishments, change the hardware, etc. and then slap the $2K+ tag on it. Absolutely ridiculous. And the bags dont look that great either. Nice try RM. =(

On a brighter note, I can't wait for her Sample Sale!

I don't see those bags in the 2k range. Other brands and looks come to mind for that $$, should have created totally new designs not at all related to what's already in the collections imho.

Usually the most successful designers do the reverse approach. Have a high-end brand then release a lower, more affordable line. I'm going to save my money.

I don't even buy Rebecca Minkoff bags anymore. They aren't special to me when everyone has the same bag only with a different design. There's nothing new! There are really only really 2 popular Rebecca Minkoff styles that keep getting re-introduced, that's the Morning After and Clutch. Why waste your money for full price when it's going to be at a sample sale in a few weeks.

Even if these bags above were in the lower price range I wouldn't buy them. They look too western.

She has got to be kidding. Those aren't special in the least. In fact, they look cheap to me. Sorry, Rebecca. Stick with what you know and do well. Don't try and play with the big boys. It's going to be the same mistake as your clothing line.

The first bag is hideous. The second one is okay...kinda reminds me of some of the Jimmy Choos out there and at a similar price point. That's alot for an RM.. Typically you see designers introducing cheaper lines. It will be tough to see up.

Where is iheartmjnicole? I know she's super busy and never at her computer, but I wish she could fill us in on some of this RM thinking.

None of these bags are appealing, much like some of her newer additions on her first line.

Maybe this line wasn't as popular as they predicted. Just got this email and it looks like the prices are much lower.

Rebecca Minkoff’s new luxurious handbag line, Rebecca Minkoff Collection debuts this month exclusively at Saks Fifth Avenue. The Collection features exotic skins, customized rose gold hardware and multi-strand shoulder straps that mimic long necklaces. Rebecca’s signature ‘Morning After Bag’ gets a hip makeover in this Collection with grid studwork and exaggerated buckles on the sides. Prices range from $450 - $850.

I am not surprised at all that they lowered their price range. Those bags are not cute at all.

From the left that bag is too american western inspired (reminds me of a thrift shop bag). Middle bag, come on, the poor MAB re-dressed again (I feel sorry for it). Far right, it's okay but looks off in the split pea fabric with rose gold hardware.

Even at that price range, nay.
