Re: Louis Vuitton Vs. Artist Nadia Plesner
I do see your point and respect your opinion but my opinion is this: who cares about darfur... We have enough problems in our own country that need to be worked out to worry about this... Once we have healthcare for all ... Better education and roofs over all American people, then we can worry about that but until then I agree to disagree and say: who cares about darfur

Re: Louis Vuitton Vs. Artist Nadia Plesner
Wow NashvilleDiva... I mean, you sound so cold hearted. You care more about animals than children and people? You said that if it was about animals then you would care, but what about innocent lives? It's not just our country who is reaching out, but all those associated with the UN. Do you even know hat's happening there?
According to reports by the World Food Program, the United Nations and the Coalition for International Justice, 3.5 million people are now hungry, 2.5 million have been displaced due to violence, and 400,000 people have died in Darfur thus far. Militia attacks and a scorched-earth government offensive has led to massive displacement, indiscriminate killings, looting and mass rape.
It's not like we invaded a country where we "knew" there were nuclear weapons - this is about stopping useless violence in a place where people don't have the means to defend themselves or provide for themselves. If the world doesn't help people and countries that are suffering from such issues, then we are all subject to something like it. Who knows if that could happen here, but are you only interested in it if it's in your back yard?

Re: Louis Vuitton Vs. Artist Nadia Plesner
I care about the lives of Children and Elderly as much as I care about the lives of Animals. They are all innocent, in my opinion, and they all should be valued although most aren't. I care about the People in Dalfur, who are suffering and dieing just as much as I care about our Suffering and Dieing People and Animals. I know a lof of People don't seem to care about animals lives as much as People but I feel that all who are suffering and defenseless, animals and man alike, need our help. Just my 2 cents.

Re: Louis Vuitton Vs. Artist Nadia Plesner
the whole Darfur thing shows how developed countries like the US and those in the European Union drain their economies on ventures with little or no payback... Its great when budgets are balanced and times are good... But when economies are weak and others in your own country suffer (children, elderly, poverty stricken families) why divert hundreds of thousands of tax dollars to aide a country that cannot reciprocate? Individuals can donate, its their right... But it just makes me sick that about a third of what I earn goes to pay for people that won't even appreciate it...
If you feel like donating on your own, that's your choice... Personally I'd give to st judes children research hospital in Memphis because they cure sick kids for free...or the ascpa because they rescue animals ( I want the one eyed shih tzu that is on their current commercial... She looks so sad it makes me sad)
I am not cold hearted, I just dont like to see money and resources from our country drained when there are others that need it that share our zip codes...

NashvilleDiva, You will be so happy to know the shih tzu was adopted soon after they found her/him. Isn't that wonderful? I felt bad for the poor baby too and was so happy she/he had a new home. I pray that she/he won't know pain ever again. I called and they told me all about it.

Re: Louis Vuitton Vs. Artist Nadia Plesner
No, I wasn't trying to cut you down at all! I swear! I just wish people would open their eyes to issues such as these. I mean, you have to admit, it did sound a little cold I completely agree with you about people in our country who need help (I have way too much love and I think everyone should be helped), and I also think those suffering in other countries should be as well. I think our (dumb) President (sorry to those Republicans/Bush supporters) needs to re-evaluate and put emphasis on our weakening economy, but I think we can spare a little to help some countries with issues that are beyond their own means.
I think it's hard to tell how someone sounds when they are writing on a forum, so if you took it the wrong way NashvilleDiva, I'm sorry!

Nash,
I think we all walk a fine line when it comes to who comes first and what charities and organizations are first on the list to be helped out.
Darfur affects me because we are talking millions of lives being threatened and extinguished through hunger, disease and war. How can we justify allowing a country to treat their own people like that?
When I was younger and a democrat, I was up in arms about every little thing. I was the ultimate pro-choicer (and then I had children - that changes everything) I didn't know how I could fix any of these things, but sitting in college classes and ranting and raving sure felt good. In 1994 it really hit home though. My roommate was a Tutsi from Rwanda. She found out that her entire family had been slaughtered WITH MACHETES a month after it happened. That small country had been cut off from the rest of the world and was quickly eliminating an entire tribe of people. I was absolutely sickened by the Rwandan Genocide. Over 800,000 Tutsis were slaughtered by the Hutus. These two tribes had lived peacefully side by side, marrying and having children with one another. And then to literally slaughter your own wife because she was a Tutsi. Unthinkable. But so real. She had nothing to go back to. Her entire family, including aunts, uncles, grandparents, all gone. And those who were Hutus wanted nothing to do with her, obviously.
And then in Yugoslavia. Again, another senseless massacre. And it makes you wonder why. How can this happen?
So now, at this point and being a proud Republican - (something that pretty much everyone becomes when you start your own company, buy a house and begin to pay serious taxes), I think we as the most powerful nation in the world, need to stand up for the little guys. And sometimes this means crossing country borders and making other people angry. Tough.
I teach my children the saying, "What would Jesus do?". Whether you are Muslim, Jewish, Atheist, Christian, you have to admit that he was an amazing man - regardless of whether you believe he is the son of God and died for our sins or was simply an amazing man. He spent his life spreading peace, tolerance, love and forgiveness. And even at the end, when he could have cursed Pontius Pilot and damned him, he forgave him. He forgave them all.
So when I look at all of these countries, all of these innocent people who don't know any better, can't do any different, I have to ask myself, "What would Jesus do?" And Jesus would fight for them all, whether they were humans here and abroad or animals in local shelters. And so my husband, my children and I do. We fight and support causes for them all.

Re: Louis Vuitton Vs. Artist Nadia Plesner
Thanks maevy! I hate to hear about countries, religious sects, and tribes who have to deal with such issues! But I think it gives everyone perspective into our world and what's going on in it.

I appreciate what she was going for. And since she didnt use the exact logo its (to me) the same as an "inspired by" bag, yet you dont hear about LV suing the copycat companies for so much!
