Samsonite has tapped another fashion star to represent the brand's latest extension in its premier Black Label series.

Chloë Sevigny is stepping into the role as Samsonite ambassador to help launch the Trunk Collection: a handmade, limited edition line of travel pieces, with designs that date to the original Samsonite trunk from the Twenties.

"It's great to work for a company with such a rich heritage and to be able to go into an archive that contains 96 years of peoples' work," said Samsonite creative director Quentin MacKay. "The trunk that I have found in our archives is probably one of the most iconic cases in travel history and conjures up a romanticism and nostalgia of the days when a trans-European or transcontinental trip was long and luxurious, to be savored and only available to a handful of people."

Sevigny will fete the new collection at a party Tuesday night in the Bryant Park Hotel.

Christina Ricci carved out the role last year when she became the face of the Black Label Fashionaire line, designed in collaboration with Cameron Silver.

The Trunk Collection retails for $365 to $625 and comprises six travel pieces: the original Heritage trunk, two upright trunks on wheels, a beauty case, an attaché case and a pilot case. All models feature traditional handmade luggage construction techniques and original locks.

"We always replicate a style as close as possible to the original, while updating its functionality, hardware and materials," MacKay said. "I then built a collection around it really incorporating functions that the traveler of today needs, such as wheels, beauty compartments, phone compartments and laptop holders."

The Trunk Collection will be sold at select Black Label boutiques around the world.

It looks like one of those luggages that you can see in old black-and-white movies.
