(NEW YORK) Coach is forging ahead with its expansion plans in Asia, announcing today the opening of its first global flagship store in Hong Kong.

The store, which is being developed with Imaginex, Coach's distribution partner, is expected to open this summer and will be centrally located at the intersection of Queens Road Central and D'Aguilar Street, at the start of Lan Kwai Fong.

"We are delighted with our Hong Kong flagship location, which is expected to be one of the highest volume Coach stores in the world," Ian Bickley, president of Coach International, said in a statement. "We understand that along with its strong local consumer base, Hong Kong is also a gateway for the tens of millions of Mainland Chinese tourists who travel there each year. This store will significantly enhance the Coach brand and is consistent with our strategy of raising awareness and aggressively growing market share with the Chinese luxury consumer."

Bickley added that he plans to grow Coach's Greater China store base from a total of about 50 locations today in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Mainland China, and Macau, to about 80 over the next few years. Greater China, according to Bickley, has the potential to quickly become the third major market for Coach, following North America and Japan.

The Hong Kong flagship is the first of several cornerstone stores Coach will open in key cities around the world over the next few years. These global flagships, which showcase the world of Coach, are at the top of the company's strategy to replicate the success it has achieved in North America and Japan, where the brand rivals its European counterparts Louis Vuitton, Prada, and Gucci.

Last June, Coach tapped former L'Oréal executive Thibault Villet as president of Greater China, a new post aimed at longtime growth in the area. Villet is based in Hong Kong and was credited for rebranding the Lancôme image in China.

The 9,400-square-foot store is being designed by Reed Krakoff, president and executive creative director of Coach, with the Coach Architecture Group. It will feature a unique and exciting new design created exclusively for this flagship, which will include a substantial four-story glass and stainless steel back-lit signature facade, as well as the Coach horse and carriage logo in a nod to its brand craftsmanship and heritage, both of which are priorities for pan-Asian and Mainland China visitors.

The store's interior will project an intimate, residential, New York City attitude in line with Coach's new Legacy concept store, which debuted on Bleecker Street in Manhattan last fall. Design details include white Italian Carrera marble floors with insets of black cabochon and areas of solid walnut herringbone planks. A high-gloss white painted ceiling will be completed with decorative crown molding. The fixtures along the perimeter of the shop will be a mix of custom lacquer and antique mirror with oxidized silver nickel accents, and Coach custom-designed furniture will be used throughout the store.

The store will feature a range of limited-edition pieces and the Greater China launch of Coach Fragrance developed by Estée Lauder. To commemorate the opening, Krakoff will create a series of exotic, hand-numbered bags.

The opening will be heralded by a high impact, integrated, marketing and communications program, including print, outdoor, direct mail, and packaging, among many other media. It will feature an advertising campaign (Kate Bosworth is the brand's current face in China) custom-tailored for international markets.

Coach has its own shop before in Causeaway bay near Lee gardens where all other high end designers like dior and chanel were placed but now they are really expanding and Coach flagship store is already under construction. I see it everytime i got to Central.

Can't wait to see their window display.
