The sex trial of a deranged New York journalist has heard evidence that he wanted to kill US Vogue editor Anna Wintour, the iconic British fashion editor who inspired The Devil Wears Prada.
Peter Braunstein, who once wrote for Women's Wear Daily, is on trial after being accused of dressing as a fireman and sexually abusing a colleague at her flat in 2005. Evidence in court yesterday showed that he had held a long grudge against Ms Wintour because she refused to answer his calls. "I'm going to kill Anna Wintour because I feel like it", he wrote in "personal manifesto", which was found on a computer disk in his backpack, after he was arrested after six weeks on the run. Mr Braunstein does not say in the manifesto how he intented to kill Ms Wintour, only that shooting her would be "too impersonal" and instead she would "be escorted by eunuchs to a place in hell run entirely by large rats". The court also heard how Mr Braunstein became unstable after he was sacked by Womens Wear Daily in October2002. He was also accused of being rude to a Vogue publicist. When his boss told him to apologise or be fired, he "stormed out". The trial continues.
