Has anyone ever had this happen? Or maybe, do you know someone who has had this happen? I'm in a panic!

It's kind of a long story..but oh well. I applied for this work at home company, and just like any company, they ask for your social security #. When I submitted everything, it said 'SSN already in use'. So, I called the main office and the lady looked up my social and it's being used by a foriegn person. I'm so scared! I don't know what to do next..

I already called my local police department and left a message with a fraud detective. I just don't know what to expect.

^^^ Have you checked your credit reports to make sure there aren't any credit cards out in your name that you don't know about? OMG! That does sound scary! I'm so sorry!

go to www.annualcreditreport.com I think that is the official site where you can get your three free annual credit reports from the bureaus...

I would check ALL 3 REPORTS... Sometimes things dont show up...

Dont freak out too bad - sometimes foreign people steal ssns and never obtain debt and just do it to work but...

I would call all three bureaus and have a lock put on your info... That way the only way anyone ( including you) can get credit is for them to call you... Kind of inconvenient but is better than your alternative...

I'd also consult a lawyer because there is a lot of red tape they can usually cut through quicker than you can alone!

Sorry this is happening and good luck!

Thanks so much you guys! I'm calling my bank in the morning and my credit card companies. There's nothing fishy on my credit report - I hope it stays that way..

You still need to contact the credit bureaus and have a freeze put on your credit.

The second link is an article that is not meant to scare you, but try to help you avoid a potential disaster. Please read and contact an attorney to help you with this situation.

Okay, I spoke with a detective and he gave me all the information I need. So far, I have made a police report, contacted the credit bureau(s) and called my local workforce center. I have also called the attorney generals office and now I'm making a complaint to the FTC.
