    Default Gas Prices

I have a Ford Explorer and I really love it and all but I'm like going broke with the increasing gas prices. Seriously, its like $20 a day to get to work and back. It just really sucks. The other day it finally went over $4.00/gallon and then 2 days after that it increased by 12 cents.

Anyone else feel my pain here?

I would trade your truck in for a Prius... Or a civic hybrid... I have the civic hybrid and its about $40 to fill up and it gets 45 mpg in the city...

Lol, I wouldn't want a SUV with the way gas prices are today. I pay less than $4.00 a gallon where I live. Usually it's anywhere from $3.70 - $3.99. UGH!

I bought my 95 Land Rover Discovery when I worked less than 2 miles from my house. Immediately after I got it I started driving 8 miles to and from work and then a LOT of miles AT work because I am a nanny. This car only gets 10 miles a gallon! They only recently (after almost 2 years) started giving me $15 in gas money a week, but based on $4 a gallon, I can on go about 30 miles a week until I am tapped out! My boss drives a Civic Hybrid so she gets about 40 miles to the gallon roughly, she does NOT understand! I go nowhere on weekends because I am so broke from buying gas. I had to apply for a gas stipend to amend my financial aid in the fall because I am going out of county to college and its like 15 miles each way which means 30 miles a day, 3 gallons a day, $12 a day! Three days a week, that adds up to almost $150 a month which is crazy. I would love to trade it in, even if its something old but gets better gas mileage but so far no luck because I have bad credit thanks to my first experience with a credit card 6 years ago!

Also, it sucks to live in NJ because you want to go to the beach and its so expensive even if the house is free. If we take BF's two seater sports car we can only take enough stuff for a weekend and he cant take his surfboard, water skis, etc. plus the dog has to stay in a kennel. My car would never make it. His work van would be fine, but it would still only get 13 miles a gallon! So frustrating. We had to cancel our holiday plans to hit Atlantic City and stick to a simple day in the city for shopping! I am hoping to trade my car on Craigslist VERY soon and be done with all this madness!

I live in LA and take me hour and half to go to work...ONE WAY. I totally understand your pain for the gas price. I have a cayman....even it's a tiny car...it burns gas like crazy....it's time to think about hybrid...unfortunately, I haven't found an attrative hybrid car yet.

^^^^civic, lexus, escape, and the prius are all cute and drive REALLY well. Also, its not a hybrid but is super stylish and gets really amazing gas mileage - the smart car (my dream car!!!) that recently released in the US is a european favorite and amazing on gas. so adorable. i literally hyperventilated the day they were realeased and i got to test drive one. they are so cheap too! if only i could scrape up enough to get one it would be mine!!!

I was driving a big car... and i still owed money on it, but it had a lot of problems, and pretty much broke down once a week, so I got a Toyota Yaris. Not quite as good as the prius, but I get 35-39mpg and thats more city driving than highway. I got my car with the bare minimum, no power windows, doors, anything... so it was pretty cheap... And the gas savings are great.

Also, if you do your grocery shopping, shop at giant eagle! If its the same as here in ohio, you get 20cents off per gallon (for one fillup) with every $50 you spend... which really adds up.

before i moved away from home i thought i would try and buy a car. i didnt realize you dont HAVE to have a car in the DC area, and i had no idea you could buy a used car for what i had to spend - $3000. i was an idiot, and i was 19. ok so i see an ad in the paper or hear it on the radio or something for Kia Rios flat price of $999 and I was like, sign me up. i FLEW to the dealer and saw what they had for $999...metallic baby poop green/yellow, no power doors locks or windows, no AC, no radio - nothing...like not even an AM radio just an empty hole in the console, no sun visors. and the best part was that there was NO BACK SEAT. the guy was like, well it gets really great gas mileage. hilarious.

I drive a Ford Expedition and it's not too bad, maybe 17/19 miles per gallon, but that's the newer engines. My SIL has one that's like an 01 and it only gets 11 or 12 miles per gallon. If I filled up from empty it's about $75, but I can usually get 3 weeks worth of driving out of a full tank.

i wanted to add that my bf told me when i bought my car that a gallon of gas weighs 6 lbs. when you only put in a half or quarter tank you can increase your gas mileage because the engine is pushing less weight. in my car i have a 24 gallon gas tank, so only filling up a quarter of a tank at a time means im dragging around 108 fewer pounds than i would with a full tank - thats a pregnant nicole richie!

Reminds me of a story when I got my hybrid ... I drove it to and from work and got 45 mpg ... Then we took it on a roadtrip and it got 35 mpg and I got mad... But then we figured that adding hubby, stepkid, and luggage added like 400 pounds...
I only keep 1/4 tank when going to and from work and get 47.2 per my cars computer
