    Question Help?

So, I get a call today about a job that I have been trying to get for the last year... and I finally have an interview tomorrow. Usually I look nice when going to interviews, but do any of yall have any tips for what I wear tomorrow? Anything would be really helpful!

I don't know why this is so hard on me, I swear I can usually dress myself! Lol. I just want to look great, because I've been told these people definitely go off of first impressions...

    Thanks

Good luck on your interview! Do you have any kind of suit or suit jacket/nice pants? Definitely dress up and look really professional and put together. You'll be awesome!

my mom always says to dress for the job you want, not for the job you have and always to dress one step up from the job dress code when going on an interview i.e. if the company is business casual, if its casual you go business casual, etc. I always go by that rule, I just wonder what happens when I work somewhere REALLY corporate...maybe Ill wear a ballgown.

i would say a nice button down shirt and a pair of like black dress pants or whatever color you have (i hate the term "slacks" - sounds kinda old ladyish imo), and some heels. you can never go wrong with that look.

Good Luck, and let us know how it went!!!

I work at a career school and we always advise our students to err on the side of looking too professional and formal rather than too casual - do a suit or pants/skirt (below the knees) and blazer in a neutral (black, navy, gray or now that it's a bit wamer you could do taupe), button down shirt, and sensible pumps or flats.

    Good luck!

I got the job....... But, its a 1099 job. They didn't inform me of that before I went in, and now I am kind of iffy about it... I don't know how much taxes and everything would be... so, I have to decide tonight if I am still going to take it. Thanks for the advice everyone!

Basically, instead of the company taking out taxes, you have to pay your own taxes at the end of the year... Kinda sucks.

^^^^^ Right, but if you really love the job, you can budget and put some $ away each month. Also, I'm pretty sure there's a way you can pay tax quarterly which might ease the payments a bit.

you will have to pay social security taxes (1099 jobs are also referred to as independent contractor)... Social security taxes are 15.5% off the top. If you are a normal employee, you pay half and the company pays half...that is probably what you are thinking...

It sounds as if tax may not be your strongest area... If you are going to make a considerable amount of$$ I would hire a CPA ( NOT one of those chain tax return places... CPAs are heavily regulated by the state and those other places dont follow the same standards)

Its also worth it to mention that the social security taxes are also in addition to any INCOME taxes ... You owe those if you are an independent contractor or an employee...

I am not a tax professional... Tax wasn't ever my area of expertise but I have seen and done enough to know its a nerve wracking thing...

Only you know what's best... It might be worth your while to call an accountant and chat with them about your situation...

oh! Another thing... If your estimated INCOME tax liability is going to be over $100 at the end of the year, you will have to make quarterly estimated payments.. In addition there will be another payroll tax return you will need to fill out...

All the things I have mentioned are federal only... You will need a tax pro in your state to. Inform you of state tax laws..

My dad really doesn't want me to take this job... and, it sucks, but Im not sure if I really want to deal with all of this at the end of the year... I guess ill just have to figure something out.
