    Default The stress is really getting to ME---

    I am going to vent here because my family is basically tired of hearing me whine and complain !!!

    I lost my job in the beginning of the summer. I basically had the worst summer ever --- I was looking and looking for a job and it really got to my mental state. However, physically I was feeling pretty fine. My mom also ran into some health issues so on top of my personal drama , I had to be a good daughter and really help her out --

    I got my job back (well almost my job )-- same school , different grades and way different subject area (however, I am certified to teach what I do ) and for awhile I was doing okay until I was told I had to move to another classroom. THAT WAS STRESSFUL. The students I deal with on a daily basis are very stressful too. I am not USED to the AGE range of the students I am teaching NOW. I had always taught a certain grade level /age level for first 12 years of my career.

    Mentally I have been down in the dumps for 5 months. Luckily my physical state was holding up pretty good-- UNTIL now ... I am late with my period ,
    my back hurts , I am having allergy issues , I am getting hives on my chest --
    I just feel like CRUD .

    I guess ALL the stress has caused my body to have a delayed reaction in the physical sense --

    I have been trying techniques to calm me down , but just NOT WORKING.

    okay I am done --

    so if anyone can give me some stress relief ideas let me know ---

    sorry to hear of the rough time you have been having Bex

    Always keep one thing in mind...if today is bad, tomorrow WILL be a better day.
    everyone has challenges in life...some greater than other. I have faced many in my life and continue to face others, but the key is not give up. be strong and weather the storm, this too shall pass..

    I don't consider this whining. Everyone needs to vent once in a while. keeping it bottled up is not good for you. If you feel it bothers your family, i am glad you feel comfortable speaking to your "bag buddies".

    Cheer up everything will get better...just keep a positive attitude

    I'm so sorry you're stressed out, Bex. Just hang in there, everything will get better. We're always here when you need to vent.

    Really sorry Bex! The last few years of my life have been VERY stressful. (My mother being diagnosed with breast cancer, losing my father to cancer, losing my father in law, then a best friend to cancer, and fighting cancer myself.) Always know that there are others out there that are going through the same thing, if not worse. Some things that have helped me are family, friends, and finding things to take my mind off of the stress. Yoga is GREAT and TBF has been a lifesaver!!

    It seems that the stress is really taking a toll on your body...maybe you should talk with a doctor?

    Def. feel the need to vent in here, we're here for ya! First of all, sorry about how things are going for you Bex, but things will eventually get better so hang on in there. When I'm stressed (with school) I TBF and I also catch up on my sleep, nothing's more relaxing than waking up fully rejuvenated from a long nap.

    I'm so sorry to hear all of that Bex. I can definitely understand how rough life can be sometimes, as I too, like everyone else, have had my fair share of trying times to deal with. I know it's hard, but I always try to remember that there are people that are far worse off than me, and I also try to remember that things WILL be better tomorrow. Also, have you considered acupuncture or Chinese Medicine as an alternative to help with your stress? I am a big believer in this form of treatment, and if you have an open mind, I recommend you try it. We are always here for you.

    I know where you are coming from. We moved away for two years and I had a teaching job near Houston that basically sucked. I came home to my small hometown in Central Texas last June, and there were no openings. I went on 4 interviews, and I ended up subbing and tutoring for my old campus, as well as teaching summer school. I basically survived on half of my salary. (We are just now starting to get back on our feet financially.) Well, I got my old job back this year, and while I love my job and the team I work with, we have so many kids with problems and it's stressful. I lost about twenty pounds over the last three months, due to stomach problems and now I too am having female problems. (Two periods a month.) I just turned 40 a couple of months ago, so I suspect my age and the weight loss have something to do with it. I have to go back on the pill for 3 months, which stinks since hubby is fixed. The only good thing is that I am now in size 8 jeans and they look great. Unfortunately, my boobs have shrunk and I need to get smaller bras, again! Sigh! I just can't win for losing.

    We are still living paycheck to paycheck. I enrolled in debt management to help us out, but we were able to buy the home we were renting first, so I'm grateful for that. I know things will get better, in time for me and you. Hang in there!

    OMgosh Kidchamp ... your job sounds like mine -- some of the students I work with are so disruptive and disturbed that I just want to give them a hug , but I cannot --

    I did lose some weight about a month and a half ago ( about 8 pounds )-- that was my I am so stressed I do not want to eat phase , now I am in a different phase -- ALL I WANT TO DO is eat ... Well needless to say I think I put back those 8 pounds --

    I have had stomache problems since I was 21 , I developed a hernia in my chest and have acid reflux from it. I got the hernia most likely from my days as a competitive figure skater -- I was working on double axels and also did pairs for awhile ... I was dropped a few times and fell on my tush many many times ---

    When all this happened I was SOOO STRONG and now I feel like I am falling apart - the storm is over -- so why do I feel this way ?

    the only thing that makes me feel better is shopping --- and that habit is getting to be somewhat expensive for me

    I'm so sorry that you had a rough time recently Bex. I may not be able to fully understand it but can empathize as I had a terrible second half of the year too. My nana passed on, had to resit exams etc etc. A few things that helped me:

    1) Meditation (we call it prayers) for 5 mins few times a day. During the time, I try to block out the real world and just listen to the sounds around me and concentrate on taking deep breaths. Sounds simple but really helped me.

    2) Drinking tons of plain water, it just helps clear out all the toxins, my skin and stomach feel so much better. (I have terrible ulcers, when I'm stressed it just goes on overdrive)

    3) Avoid negative things ie reading the news, violent movies, suicidal like songs, negative people etc etc. It may not seem like much but too much negativity around you just saps energy even when you may not realise it

    4) Surround yourself with happy things ie positive cheerful people, songs that make you want to dance, life affirming movies etc.

    5) Every night, I make a list of good things that happen today even small things and if there was something bad that happened that day, I reflect back to see if there's anything I can do to stop it. If there is, I try the solution the next day and there isn't, I take a deep breath and just try to let it go.

    This is a just a small list and I'm sure others can offer many more options. I'm really glad that you have this forum to talk to. It really helps, I know it did me.

    Bex, another thing you need to do is leave work at work. I see teachers at my school up there to all hours and I decided that I wasn't going to do that. When I walk out that door, usually around 4, I am done for the day. I also remind myself constantly that I am doing all I can to help them, and I cannot undo the problems many of these kids have. I also set aside time for myself. Whether it is reading, surfing the net, whatever, I give that time to myself. It is a real help with stress. This time of year doesn't seem to help much. I tend to hate the holiday season as there is the shopping, the decorating, etc., but I remember it is only once a year.

    You have to find what works for you. And just remember you have friends who know what you are going through. That always helps for me!!!!

    great list frspa -- now I have a friend who is pissed off at me because I have been avoiding her (but I have been doing it to actually protect her ... she don't need to hear what I am going through ) --- she has been writing some crappy stuff on facebook and I know it is directed towards me --- She has gone through some really crappy stuff this year and I have been there for her 100% and now it is like she is abandoning me or such --
    She is writing stuff like ---Hates when people don't call me back
    or Hates when people don't take enough personal responsibility for themselves
    or Hates it when a friend doesn't leave her work life at work

    I like this place way better than Facebook these days ---

    With friends like that who needs enemies? We have the marriage problem group at work. Every time I turn around, someone is having marriage problems. I wonder if it is something in the water. And these are people who I thought had stable marriages.

    Well, Bex, I think you are a great friend to try and keep your problems from her, it's too bad she doesn't realize that! And you just keep on venting! I told one guy at work today I can be an ear if he needs one and that I am the queen of counseling. Goodness knows I have spent more of my fair share in counseling. The only reason I didn't become a shrink or a counselor is I was afraid that I would spend too much time trying to diagnose myself! lol

    Hang in there! Sometimes it helps to tell your troubles to total strangers. And goodness knows we all have had our share of problems. Think how boring life would be if we were totally happy all the time and had no stress! Of course, I wouldn't mind trying it for a month just to see if I liked it!
