    Default Let's talk budgeting...

How do you budget your stuff? Do you have a certain amount for everything each month and then split it up or have separate budgets?
Personally, I have different budgets for everything. So I start out with a lump sum and then put amounts into each category. So I have bags, shoes, clothes, hair and make-up (including salon visits), donation for rescue facility I volunteer at (vet bills and food), etc...
    Anyone else?

I REALLY need to learn how to budget my money. Im horrible at keeping track of where my money goes and I have a spending problem. Sometimes, I buy crap that I dont even need.

I think I got it from my dad. He's like that too. My mother take care of all the finances in the family. Im hoping that the woman I end up marrying will be good with numbers and accounting.

I don't really budget at all. Which is funny because I'm a business major and it should be my thing.

But honestly, this is how I handle my money I pay about 35 dollars for groceries a week (and throw in there about 40 dollars for my wine/beer/vodka, that I consume about 3-4 times a month, not including what I drink at restraunts) , which is pretty cheap because I mostly eat produce and I only have to buy whey protein and supplements about once every other month. As for eating out, I eat out at a really nice restaurant like 3-4 times a month. I don't really like eating out because I'm pretty health conscience and I'm not a fan of random people touching/preparing my food.

For clothes/shoes/handbags , I don't have a budget but I pretty much but find a few nice things I want about every month or every other month. Which isn't much.

As far as bills, my mother pays my electric and my phone bill. My apartment pays my water bill. And I pay my rent. I don't have cable because I don't watch television, in fact, I don't own a television because I don't have time to watch it.

And finally, I set aside money to go on vacation like 3-4 times a year.

It all works, I don't have a savings but I have a nice sum of money in my checking account for emergencies.
If love is the answer, what is the question?

Budgeting, budgeting... what's that? Seriously though, if I have money in my account, it's going to get spent. Only when I run out do I stop. LOL!

Budget? What's that? Well since I don't have a job other then babysitting (approx. $200+ per month) and I don't need to worry about bills and groceries, then I can just spend my money however I want. Of course, my parents buy me stuff too.

I guess I am going to be the oddball here, but I love budgeting! I love just about everything to do with finances and accounting and all of that.

I've tried several budgeting ideas (like the envelope system, etc.). And while all that budgeting worked, I found I didn't really need it. As long I payed myself first (before even paying rent I put some into my savings and IRA), I didn't really need to watch where the rest of my paycheck went. After paying myself, I paid rent and then any utilities that had to be paid. As long I took care of my responsibilities, I didn't care what else I spent my money on. If one month I spent a lot on groceries and eating out, that's ok. And likewise, if I had spent a little on groceries and more on clothes, that's ok too.

Now, things have slightly changed. I recently moved back in with my parents (reason completely unrelated to finances) and no longer have to worrying about rent and utilities and all of that. So this is what I currently do- I split each paycheck into three categories: savings (and this is divided into other sections: emergency fund, moving/grad school fund, and wedding fund), Roth IRA, and fun money. 50% of each paycheck goes into savings (and then in a spread sheet I allocate how much of that goes into the various sub-section), 30% into my IRA, and the remaining 20% I spend on whatever I want.

I could go on, but that's a good summary of what I do.

I used to use the microsoft budget on the computer, but it just got so time consuming, and I hated having to get on the computer every time I spent money.

So, now, we have or investments taken out automaticly. Then, as soon as we get paid, we put a certain amount in the savings (normally 500.00 a month to use towards emergency, unexpected house repairs, etc.) Right now we are lucky because all of our cars are paid off, so we also have a seperate account where we put money every month, so when we have to buy another, we are not stuck paying interest.
We also have money put aside from selling our house (before the market crashed, thank God) so when we buy our next house, we will have a good amount to put down. Oh, and our rent is automaticly taken out too.

We also have a small stash put aside for vacation.

I then pay the bills,(electric, cable, etc.) and get groceries (usually about a thousand a month. We are not overweight, but 3 boys eat ALOT!!)

The rest we do not really budget. That is money for eating out, clothes, purses of course, and things for the kids, stereo, just whatever that are things we can live without, but just want! We do not have a credit card balance, if we use it, it is paid at the end of the month (my DH has a real problem with paying interest.).

Honestly, I think we do good with most of our budget, but I know we could do better with what we spend on stuff we really don't need. But, you only live once, I guess. Right now with the economy being so bad, I kind of feel guilty spend on frivilous (sp) things. Thank God my husband has a job he can not lose (unless he comits a crime or something)!!!LOL

I just pay the bills and if anything is left over, it's for fun money. That's not even close to budgeting, is it?
