It depends on what bag you have and how you carry it on how fast they will turn. For instance, a speedy's handles are going to turn faster because both handles are held with your hands. Keeping it in and out of the dustbag is not going to make very much of a difference. They change from wear and from the transfer of oils in your skin to the leather. A way to keep them light is to use Mr. Clean Magic Eraser when they start to turn, it will help to lighten them. I know Arianne used a white pencil eraser on her handles and it worked for her.

It all depends on how much you wear your bag... eventually, the patina is going to kick in... Personally, I love my Vuitton's with Patina...

So if you carry it on your arm and it doesn't touch your skin (with a long sleeved shirt), it won't absorb the oil?

Yeah, it depends on how oily your skin is. LOL! Have you tried the Lovin My Bags For Handles Only? It slows down the patina process and you eventually end up with a nice even honey color. I like patina... but I don't like gross, black, and dirty. KWIM? So this helps prevent all the icky stuff on your hands from soaking into the leather and making it look gross.

Here's their website: Lovin My Bags Store

I have also heard of people spraying on that Wilson's stuff. But I don't have any experience with it personally.

It won't change as quickly if you always wore it like that. It is eventually going to happen, but this would help to slow down the process.

Patina refers to changes in surface texture and colour that result from normal use. One way to slow down the patina process is also to keep it out of the sun. Aside from normal use and oils, the sun tans the leather. I actually prefer my vachetta to be honey in colour so I put my new speedy out in the sun over the weekend. I also put my bag on the seat of the car so that the sun hits it through the windscreen. If you want to slow down the patina process, keep your bag in the shade!

^ thats the same thing I do with my bags! I let them sit in the sun and soak up the rays! I like my handles with patina, I really don't like when the handles are light. I get scared when it gets dirty!
