I don't think it will kill me. I have talked to several of MY family members who are up north in what used to be the state fueled by the automotive industry. It's horrible. Tens of thousands of people have lost their jobs, and the trickle down is that even those who didn't work in the auto industry are hurting because there is no disposable income.

I hate to be all doomsday and stuff...but I have a bad feeling about what's going on in our economy...I think I will forego the several-hundred-dollar bags for a while and see where this ride is taking us. If I come in to some money unexpectedly, that's one thing. Even though technically I can afford one bag every three months...I think I am going in to savings mode.

There's a bright side to that though...once everything picks back up I can go blow that savings like a mad woman!

You are so right.. it's scary. I want a bag so bad.. but then I have to sit and think of all the horrible things that are happening. We are in a recession whether our President wants to admit it or not (yes I'm a republican, and yes I voted 4 him). I live in FL.. where there are thousands of people leaving South FL everyday and foreclosures are a trend. It's sad.. the other day I saw a house in my neighborhood with all their belongings on the street. You instantly know.. they lost their house. I'm a republican and it's really sad to say... if McCain gets into office we will probably see a great depression. That's my opinion.. doesn't take a genious to figure out though, Republicans spend lots of money and Democrats try to fuel economies. To hear McCain say he wants this war to go on all 4 years he is in office then even come on TV and say he wants a DRAFT is... scary. I know I don't want my BF going to war. Gas is just getting rediculous.. when gas goes up.. everything goes up in price even handbags and shoes. I wasn't for Obama AT ALL, and still not. But I must admit.. I'm sick of seeing my friends, family, and people I don't even know suffer. He gets my vote.

I probably wouldn't get the whole political thing going on this forum, LOL...but we are screwed either way we go :-(

My husband is 40, so he wouldn't get drafted.

Do you think they would draft women?

That is very true. But like what a couple other people said it depends on how close you are to your family. The reason why I voted for a new bag purchase is because I was speaking through personal experience... every xmas (for the last 6 years) the day before my bf and I fly over to his family, then xmas morning we fly back to Seattle to visit my family. And since his family lives in this state we have to take a small plane to get there, so it costs like $600 roundtrip + renting a car, etc. So last year we were there for less than 12 hours and did nothing.. seriously we went to his brothers, went and saw his dad, went to sleep, then jumped on the plane.. .. so in that case, I would rather buy a bag... then visit when we have more time, plus when the flight costs are down.

Not trying to be rude.. but what's the big deal? Whether people want to face it or not.. there is a huge decision to be made come November. My BF and his brothers... plus all my guy friends could be drafted.. it's scary. But a draft would fuel an economy.. more jobs open up for people that don't have any. I have no clue if they would draft women. I mean I HOPE NOT, I can not see myself with a LV bag in my hand and heels on.. holding a heavy a$$ gun. My dad was in Vietnam, stories he tells me.. I don't want to be anywhere near war.

But some feminists always complain that women need equal rights like men. Because of people like that... is why they might draft women. I'm big into politics.. and I've heard of them drafting women because of the whole feminist issue. Would John McCain do it? Who knows... he does have a son serving in the military in Iraq and he was a POW. I agree.. either way we are screwed.. but Obama (like any Democrat) is against war. Plus he grew up in Idnonesia (Middle Eastern region.. 'nuff said) he doesn't want us in any middle eastern countries.. bad part.. he actually wants to have talks with them. Why have talks with people that bombed us? So ya... we are screwed.

K no more politic talk... bag talk!

May I ask what bag you were going to get?

Okay... so $500 for Christmas plus $200 for Valentines Day equals an LV bag and maybe a coin purse to match.

LOL she is so right... X-mas is the time to bank on a loved one. Vday is just an expensive dinner and a Coach purse!

That's hilarious! For Vday my BF took me to Benihana.. and he had bought me that Patent Coach Ergo I scored at dillards for $171 retail was $458.

But before Benihana he did surprise me with the MK Penelope heels. So cute!

We are in super-saver mode right now. We both grew up as children of auto workers, so we know that jobs shouldn't be taken for granted. Although I think my company is pretty safe (it's based out of Australia so it's not an American company) - you never know. So...we have been living as minimal as possible. Very few expensive dinners out, no unnecessary purchases...

We will be taking a vacation, but its within driving distance of our house and we are taking the Hybrid instead of the truck. We usually travel with the truck because its so much more comfy, but we will forego that at 20 mpg and $4 per gallon vs. 45mpg at the same price.

All I was saying is that you should give up the LV for Christmas so you guys can take your trip and then your husband can make up for it on Valentine's day. Or your birthday?

I know what you were getting at. Act like i was giving it up, but then sneak it in later...LOL

My birthday is in June, so I would have to wait a year for the bag. IT's far to expensive for any other family ... I guess I could show my grandma my Marilyn if she comes down to see me this summer and then talk about Louis Vuitton all the time...when I was a kid I liked those Troll doll things and she always bought me a bunch of them. My parents have a garbage can full of them (the big kind you put out by the road, not the small kind you put in your bathroom) in their barn leftover from when I was a kid...So she would just buy them for me because that is what I was in to...

But...I guess a $4 Troll doll is a lot different than an $800 purse...you never know though. She's retired and single (grandpa passed away) so you never know...she just might drive down to Troy (in Michigan) and get one...LOL

if you sold those beanie babies while they were hot you would have a mint! I bought one for a friend (a pig- she grew up on a pig farm) and she called me when we were in our first year at college and asked if I would care if she sold it (she was a very thoughtful girl) and she got $500 for it!! I should have kept it!! LOL
