As the marquee brand of French conglomerate LVMH, nothing--not even a strong euro and dwindling U.S. economy--can stop Louis Vuitton's growth. With a brand value of $25.74 million, Louis Vuitton was recently ranked the No. 1 luxury brand in the Millward Brown BrandZ' Top 100 Most Powerful Brands, a list that covers 50,000 brands worldwide.

Who Conducted The Rankings

Based on the profile of BrandZ, the company's ranking provides a sector and geographic coverage of market-facing brands, including brands in Apparel, Beer, Cars, Fast Food, Financial Services, Luxury Goods, Mobile Communications, Motor Fuel, Personal Care, Retail, Soft Drinks, and Technology. It covers brands in developed markets currently driving world GDP, and emerging markets whose share of world GDP is expected to grow in the future. Made possible by Millward Brown Optimor, he refined the BrandZ Ranking over the past three years. He used the BrandZ database of its parent company, WPP Group; the database is the world's largest repository of brand equity data, which include interviews with more than one million consumers globally.

The Louis Vuitton's Performance

In the fashion and accessories division, of which Louis Vuitton is part of, LVMH reported revenues of 1.5 billion euros ($2.3 billion) in the first quarter of 2008, jumping 7.1% from 1.4 billion euros ($1.9 billion) in the corresponding period from 2007.

'The increase in figures can be attributed to successful strategic research done by their marketing experts which includes its current advertising campaign. It stars former Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards using the brand's original monogrammed steamer. Their ad campaign highlights the useful goods instead of focusing only on their best seller handbags and aims to target their original customer base.

All in all, there were four LVMH-owned companies that made it to the list, including Champagne brand Moët & Chandon and fashion label Fendi.

Below is the list of 10 of the world's most powerful luxury brand according to BrandZ 2008 report.
