Default Is the Speedy shaper worth it?

I've been seeing Speedy "shapers" for sale on eBay was curious as to if it was even worth purchasing. I want to be able to hand my collection down to my daughter (if I have one eventually - or a very very lucky daughter-in-law) and I want to take care of my bags as best as possible. What do you ladies think?

The shape of my 5 year old speedy is perfect without a shaper. I understand wanting to keep a bag in impecable condition for years, though.

I recall when trying to figure out which speedy to buy (between 30 and 35) the SA saying get whichever you can keep close to full. She said carrying a practically empty speedy with aid in it losing its shape. I always tote around a lot, and the shape of my bag still looks like it did the day I bought it.

If you are worried about the shape, you can just put a magazine at the base. It will help the bag retain a nice natural shape. Although, I know plenty of people who prefer the sagging look. (I always throw in a copy of US weekly or similar thin tabloid)

My speedy is going on 7 years old. I used it for a steadily for a year or two then gave it some 'time off'. To protect the speedy's condition, I made sure to avoid rain/water. Those common water marks are such an eyesore. Now I use a repellent so I have no worries. The canvas may lose a bit of its luster with a few years use. So at some point in the future, you can just wipe it down with a slightly soapy, damp cloth. After that, I use just a drop of pure mink oil to smooth a sheen over the canvas (just the canvas, never the leather). The oil also helps to keep the coating on the canvas moisturized so it won't crack. You won't need to worry about this for a few years but I thought I would share my care regimen.

Hm, I wouldn't use a magazine, it would add too much weight IMO. If you were to use a shaper I'd get this one ( Base shaper for Louis Vuitton damier epi speedy 30 RED - eBay (item 280195359752 end time Feb-05-08 19:15:00 PST) ). It shows how it improves the shape! Plus, if you don't like it, you're not throwing away alot of money.

I kind of like mine slouchy. I have used this bag organizer thing and I have noticed that it helps to hold the shape.
I was told by my SA not too put too much (weight) in it because it could stretch the canvas.

I actually have had the same question in mind after I saw the speedy shaper on eBay. I guess it's a matter of preference. Some like the saggy look, others don't. To each her own then

i see alot of all around sort of base shaper in ebay but I wouldnt personally spend $40 on one, I bought a base shaper off let-trade for $12.99 and it works great, my speedy is like 12 y/o and I think it still looks great... I like it cos its light weight, and I can use it on all my speedys...

I have a purseket (?) and it works beautifully. Personally I wouldn't spend the money for the name.
