Default INSURING YOUR LOUIS VUITTON COLLECTION...

    Hello Ladies/Gents,
I would like to today remind all members of the importance of insuring your Louis Vuitton/purse collection. In these tough times it is important that you don't skimp on insurance - and have a disaster happen.

Unfortunately you will need a current RETAIL REPLACEMENT PRICE of all items you own.

I have drafted the following letter (which I just emailed LV with).

Please feel free to use my letter as a template.

    KIND REGARDS,

    YOUR FRIEND ARCHIE.

    Hello girls,
I just got a lovely phone call from Louis Vuitton about my above request. They quoted me the replacement price for every piece. THANK YOU SO MUCH LOUIS VUITTON!

Just out of interest..... our collection would be AU$57,250 (US$43,215-) to replace.

    I paid AU$17,554 (US$13,250-) for the collection.

This means on average I paid 30% of new price for an item - oviously I bought a few pieces at retail (full price) and some pieces much cheaper than 30%.

I have also added a 2nd figure in the 2nd coloum.... this is what I believe the 2nd hand worth is of these pieces.....

I JUST THOUGHT YOU WOULD LIKE TO SEE THAT STATS!

What about the bags that are no longer in production? How do they put a $$ amount on those since you can't buy them new?

Its always a good idea and to take pics of all your bags w/ dust bags & with receipts. I did that for many of my expensive bags which include my LV Murakami collection.

I think the last price that was listed in the LV catalogue when it was last available.

Only had 1 item they could not price... my LV Randonnee!

    Everything else was fine.

That is an excellent idea,..... ALSO - don't keep these photos at home with the bags! ie if there is a fire at home they will also be destroyed.....

    Kind regards,

Well, for one, an insurance company here would not take your word for it that you owned said items if something were to happen to them. They wouldn't simply accept a list with retail values you obtained from LV. Don't you have to produce receipts or an official appraisal in order to gain any sort of recovery?

I asked my insurance company and they advised photograph the really expensive things.... I told them I had everything photographed already.

I love photography (although I am learning all the time) so I don't mind combining 2 hobbies.....

In Australia lying on your insurance claim is a serious offence...... so best not to lie.

I'm not saying you're lying to the insurance company. I just meant that insurance companies usually want concrete proof that you did in fact own something and how much it is currently worth. Like my wedding ring, for example, has to get appraised every 2 years in order to maintain the insurance on it. If something were to happen to it, they would also want a receipt showing when we purchased it and how much.

I have everything over $500 on my insurance. I was told they couldn't insure anything less. Also, I was told that pictures were mandatory, and receipts are helpful. These are all in safety deposit box at the bank.

For some insurance companies, you might be. It depends on if you have any other proof. There was a member on here that had lost their bag collection in a fire and the insurance company wouldn't pay to replace it because she didn't have any receipts or anything. OMG, why can't I think of their name now? Anyway, I would think it would be better to be safe than sorry. If you don't have receipts then take pictures and/or have stuff appraised.
