Default LOUIS VUITTON PRESIDENT CLASSEUR - ULTIMATE BRIEFCASE

    Hello all,
I just received my latest acquisition yesterday…. It is a Louis Vuitton President Classeur Monogram briefcase.

Now some of you may think I am crazy to have so many briefcases in my collection….. but I absolutely love them.

The epitome of briefcases is the LOUIS VUITTON PRESIDENT.

There is an even larger LOUIS VUITTON PRESIDENT GRANDE but that is getting ridiculous!

The Louis Vuitton President is the epitome of style and class. YES – it is getting a bit dated (being a hard case item)…. But it really is a classic.

I must say that in comparison to my Louis Vuitton Diplomate briefcase…… I ACTUALLY PREFER the Diplomate….. this is for a number of reasons:-
    1) the diplomate is a much more usable size (the president is getting a bit big and grand – being 1” larger in all areas than the diplomate).
    2) the diplomate has a pen holder which sadly is missing from the monogram version….. the taiga version does also have this pen holder.
    3) my diplomate is in taiga leather….. the LV monogram is a bit showy! …. But it is perfect for a collector like me.
    4) the president is too heavy! Being made of wood it is heavy…. The diplomate is no light weight either….. but the president is very heavy as it is larger than the diplomate.

Personally I love my President…. It is everything I thought it would be.

I only issue I have …. (now this is embarrassing)…. IT STINKS! The previous owner was a heavy smoker…. Whilst there is no burn marks…. It smells like an ashtray! The condition of the item is 8.5 out of 10….. but the smell is 5/10.

Any advice on this? I only got it yesterday…. I have not even wiped it down…. So hoping I can do something about this…..

I bought this briefcase on ebay…. I paid a very very fair price….. I think the Global Financial Crisis is the reason…. This briefcase is about US$4500- new…. I paid US$1051- THAT IS EXCELLENT BUYING FOR SUCH A MINTER…..

    Diplomate in Tiaga for comparison:-

Congratulations Archie! You must be very happy

Smells... I've tried various things, but the only thing that seems to get rid of it completely, without replacing it or 'hiding it' with another smell, is just plain airing - although there may be other opinions out there?

Wow, you got a great deal Archie. Try airing it out or getting in professionally cleaned like Jen said.

That's great deal Archie, congrats!! Your best bet for the smell is spa treatment for the bag but best to confirm with LV staff to see if it definitely can come off. In the mean time try all the other remedies suggested here. Good luck!

I love Archie's You Tube videos on Louis Vuitton! I've been collecting Swaine Adeney, Goldpfeil and Seeger briefcases for years and two months ago was bitten by the Louis Vuitton bug. In this short time, I've been able to acquire three Louis Vuitton President Classeur briefcases, all in pristine condition and verified as authentic at the Louis Vuitton shop in Toronto, Canada. The first is the black Taiga President Classeur with silver hardware that the Louis Vuitton salesman told me is actually solid brass hardware plated with Palladium! The second briefcase is the Epi President Classeur in black with brass hardware and the third briefcase which arrived yesterday from Verona, Italy is the Taiga President Classeur in burgundy with brass hardware. I need some advice! Although the leather is in perfect condition inside and out on all three cases (they look brand new) on the two cases with brass hardware, the brass has acquired the tarnished old patina so these are obviously older cases. My question is should I leave them alone or give them a good cleaning? Does it diminish the value by cleaning the brass hardware? Once I start, there is no going back so I'm in limbo. HELP! Cheers, Eric

Personally, I would leave them the way they are. If you do decide to clean them, it might be safer to have LV do it.

I have an interesting idea about getting rid of the smoke smell. Febreeze has just launched a new air freshener product for your car that you clip into the air vent. Use one of these in your briefcase and close the lid for the day on your briefcase! Here's my LV Epi President Classeur! Cheers, Eric 132.jpg

009.jpg I am hoping to chat with Archie Luxury as I now have four President Classeurs with # 5 on the way (the monogram version) from Italy. I am now looking for a green Taiga version and am wondering if Archie knows where to find one. My brown case has a little Brasso on it from cleaning and I have since removed it. As Archie says in his You Tube videos...Take your time cleaning these things" Please click on my photo for a larger view. Cheers, Eric
