Default LV Scratch and Mark removal...

    Hello All,
I just recently took delivery of my first hard case suitcase. I bought it 2nd hand.

It is a Bisten 65. It is about 8 years old. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!

It is in excellent condition apart from a few marks. Hard case luggage seems to get more marks as it does not flex (like soft luggage items).... therefore they are more suspetable to scratches.....

I have now removed these marks (well most of them) and I wish to share the secret.

LV officially states that you should only ever use a dry cloth to clean an item... SORRY - but this will not remove anything....

I suspect LV states this for 2 reasons - 1) they don't want to be blamed for a stuff up and 2) they want to promote people buying new at all times.

My Bisten suitcase had some white marks on 1 side. These are on top of the surface. If they have eaten into the LV mono canvass - there is not much you can do expect remove the color and be left with the scratch.

    STEPS TO CLEAN:-
    1) clean / wipe over the item with a damp cloth - this will remove all dust. Otherwise you will be forcing dust into the scratches etc.
    2) let item dry - 20-30 min should surfice
    3) clean / wipe over with a surface cleaner / spray. This is a mild detergent which will take off built in dirt.
    4) wipe over with a damp cloth - this is to remove the soap/detergent from step 3.
    5) let item dry.
    6) use an automotive paint scratch remover (I used Meguirars Scratch X) on a scratch which is on top of the original canvas (nothing can really be done if he scratch has eaten into the surface). I rubbed it in lightly (to ensure it did not damage the surface).... then I applied by putting on for 1-2 min, then rubbing off in a circular motion. You can rub harder for tougher marks.... BUT ALWAYS BE CAREFUL! I did not remove the marks 100% as I did not want to damage the surface.... this step can be repeated next day if necessary.... better to do this over a few days instead of very harshly in 1 day.
    7) wipe over with a damp cloth
    8) next day.... wipe over with a damp cloth to remove any residue.
    9) follow up with a wipe over with a dry clean cloth
    10) polish brass with a bit of "BRASSO" on a cotton bud - careful not to put brasso onto LV Monogram canvass. Polish off with a soft cloth.

NB - Personally I did not want a perfectly polished brassware.... I liked a bit of tarnish remaining.... but wanted the big lock, and 2 side catches to proud display the LV logos! So I concentrated on these areas mainly..... leaving a bit of tarish for that vintage old money look..... SERVANTS WOULD BE A VERY HANDY ACCESSORY HERE!

wow, good job on the cleaning, you can really see a big difference! so the scratches were just white color on the canvas, and the canvas wasn't damaged?
