    Default Where have GUY been?

Some of you may know that Ive went through a little bit of depression a few weeks back. I lied and told myself that things were getting better....BUt, it wasnt. I got to the point where I thought nothing meant anything to me in this world anymore. I thought that maybe...just maybe that it will be better to just pull the trigger and end it all.

As I sat in the showers (for about 2 hours) thinking back on my life and experiences that Ive been through...I started to miss my mother. I decided to call her "just to talk". EVen though I tried hiding the fact that I was down...she could still tell. She thought it was best if I fly back to Boston and be with the family. I agreed.

Three days later I was in Boston. I didnt do much but laid in front of the fireplace for the next two days. I guess I didnt hide my depression too well because my mom wanted to "talk". As we sat there, tears just started coming down my face. I started to whine about how hard and unfair life is and how everything is not going the way I wanted it to and on and on and on. My mom would just sit there and listen and say things that every mother in the world would to try to make her kid feel better. At the end of our little talk she said she wanted to give me a gift....But she didnt want to tell me what it was when I asked.

Then Thursday night came along. The driver dropped us off at the Hyatt for dinner. As we sat there waiting for my brother and his girlfriend. My mother decided to give me the gift that she promised. It was a plane ticket to Vietnam. I was confused and I was like WTF?! Then she explained how she thought it would be a good idea for me to see how "unfortunate" I am and how "bad" life was treating me. Then I was like " You cant compare my life to people in third world countries!!" She replied " WHy not? Theyre human beings too. Just go...itll be a good experience for you". Again, I agreed.

    Next stop Vietnam!

Ok, SO thats just half of the story. I know this post is kinda long and I dont know If I should continue. I dont wanna make you guys fall asleep on me. lol

    ^^^ Okok lol.

After a LooOong 21 hr. plane ride...I finally arrived in Vietnam around 9:30pm. First thing I noticed was how hot and humid it was. I was suppose to meet my driver at bagguage claims. As I was walking towards bagguage claims, Two guys appraoched me. I then realized it was my driver and my translator/ tour guide.

They wanted to take me out to eat but I declined because it was getting kinda late and I was tired. So, I asked to be dropped off at my hotel. WHen we arrived at the hotel, I was suprised at how nice it was (I think it was called the Duxton hotel or somthing). I checked in and off I go to my room. Jumped in the shower to get cleaned up a bit. I dont remember what happened after that cause I was dead tired.. SO, I mustve dozed off on the bed.

The next morning, Tone (Im sure I spelled his name wrong here)my tour guide showed up at my door to take me site seeing. So, I got dressed and met him and the driver in the lobby. As I walked outside, I was shocked at how many bikes and mopeds filled the streets. I mean there mustve been thousands of bikes/mopeds going every direction!! Plus, the fact that there warent too many street lights didnt help either. Needless to say that I was scared to cross the street!! BUt, I did with the help of my new friend.

They took me to the usual site seeing tourisy places to see Old palaces, Old pagodas, VN war memorials, ect ect. Which I wasnt really interested for your info. Then I told them to take me somewhere fun. YOu know, where the hip young people hang out at. Then they took me to this place called district one. WHich I guess is supposeta be the Rodeo Drive of Ho chi minh city. First thing I noticed was the LV store (I thought of you girls when I saw that). We went in and ALL of the attention from the staff was on me...which was GREAT and weird all at the same time. They served me tea and I looked around. Then I left.

NIght time arrived and Tone wanted to take me clubbing. We arrived at this club called Katwalk. As we drove up, I was let out in front of the club and was treated like some VIP and was taken to my private table (never felt so important in my life!! lol). The whole nite I just sat there and drink girlie drinks (Im bad with alcohol) and listen to the Hiphop beats that they were playing. The next thing I knew, a group of beautiful girls approached my table and asked me to dance. I declined. I didnt want them to see my Chandler like dance moves. Instead, I invited them to sit with us. After a few drinks and small talk through Tone. I thought I'd wrap up the night and go back to the hotel to get some shut eye.

WOke up the next morning to Tone banging on my door ( I guess he's comfortable with me enough to do that lol). I let him in and he announced that today is the day that he was suppose to take me where my mother requested him to. We jumped in the car and aftre a few hours of driving we arrived at a christian Orphanage. I stepped out of the car and a dozen kids ranned up to greet me (and asking for candies).Tone took out a big bag filled with sweets and we passed them out to the kids. As I tour the orphanage, I got to know some of the children and got to hear a few of their heart breaking stories. I tried my best not to cry in front of them....but, i couldnt help it. I then decided to spend the rest of my trip at the orphanage. I told Tone and the driver to come back and pick me up in 5 days.

The next 5 days I stayed at the ophanage to play with the children. I grew particularly close to this one little girl name Twee (I call her Tweety). At 14 years old, SHe was one of the older ones. Both her parents died while she was a infant. HEr aunt and uncle were too poor to care for her so they left her at the orphanage. FOr a 14 year old she was way more mature than her age. We spent our time talking about her likes and dislikes ,her favorite foods, what her goals and dreams were ect. I can honestly say that I learned alot from Twee. SHe changed the way I looked at the world.

On the last day I talked to one of the Sister and asked what I can do to help these kids...Because theyve helped me in so many ways that I cant even explain. Truely, Theyve saved my life. When I asked what I can do for the orphange The sister just looked at me with these soft gentle eyes that Ill never forget and said "The past few days you brought smiles and laughter to these children...Youve done enough". Then she hugged me. Again, tears start strreaming down my eyes.

It was late afternoon and my ride finally arrived. I ranneed up to the car and told Tone and the driver to give me all the money that they had on them. They looked at me strange... but did what I asked. I ranned inside and donated most of money that we had.

The whole orphanage walked me to my car. As we said our goodbyes..I promised them that I would return one day to visit. We got to the car and Tweety ranned up and held my hand. She said something that I will never forget. WHile she was crying a river of tears she said " Please dont forget me, Because I will never forget you....". I hugged and kissed her and promised to never forget her and Promised to keep in touch.

On the drive back it made me smile to realized how smart my mother was.Her whole master plan worked like a charm.

Ps- Im planning to do another trip in a few months to visit my new friends. Cant wait!!

Pss- There you have it! that's what Ive been up to and now you all know. :)

thanks for sharing and glad to know that something had changed you, in a good way.

I always believe in that, when you are struggling, you dont have to jump out of it or end it, but look at it from different ways. You will soon see the beauty of it.

Whatever doesn't kill you, only makes you stronger!!

Thank you ladies!! I missed you all too!! The past few weeks have been NUTZ. I think we all should take some time out to be greatful for what we have. I think we are all priviledged to have what we have. Im not just talking about material things. I mean just by having a family that loves you should be enough to be thankful for.

As we speak, My business is not doing too well since Ive been away. Matter of fact, I cant even remember the last time I worked!! Ive lost money everyday that I didnt work. But, all that doesnt matter to me now. Theyre all material things that can be gained back. If not, I can just move back home with mommy and daddy and smooch off them.

You are so lucky to have experienced what you did Guy. There's nothing more humbling than seeing those that are FORCED to live in unfortunate circumstances. I have travelled extensively through Asia and India, and since doing so, it has put everything in perspective for me, as I'm sure it has done for you.

Your mother is a smart lady.

Thanks for sharing your experience, it was real heart warming.
