I agree she is being selfish. It's not like they're aren't any places that would take him. I can understand her not wanting to pay all that money for the insulin, but putting him down is not the answer. He may only be a cat to some people, but he doesn't deserve that. I hope for his sake he isn't diabetic and if he is that she can be convinced to do otherwise.

That is really sad. If I were you and she was ignoring me about wanting to find him a good home, I would drive over there in the middle of the night and cat-nap him! Or couldn't you just say that you will take care of him, then maybe try to find him a home or something.

This is really sad. I hope the test result come back and he's okay.. not diabetic

Yeah, I could do that. Mr BRS isn't exactly cat-lover of the year though. I wish I knew someone that would be willing to take the cat, but I can't think of anyone off the top of my head. Oh well, I just need to not worry about it for now. We don't even have the test results back yet, so it is probably best to wait until then.

usually meds for pets are more expensive than the ones for humans.

i really hope everything works out and the test is negative. whatever you do don't send him to the pound (although rumor is most of them are so full they have strict criteria when it comes to accepting cats & dogs). good luck.

No news yet. For some reason the vet didn't have the results ready yet. I guess I'll have to call my parents again tomorrow for an update.

I have some good news! He's not diabetic! The vet thinks he must have eaten something bad because there was bacteria found in his urine. This would explain the vomiting. They are going to wait a few more days to see if he needs antibiotics or not.

I don't think your mother means to be selfish, she probably just knows better. Now I'm sure there are people who would adopt a diabetic cat, but I'm sure it'll be difficult to find any takers. It's different to take care of a cat you've had (& loved) who just became diabetic than to adopt one you just met and now have to spend hundreds of dollars just to take care of it.

Poor kitty! Whatever happens, just know it's probably in the best interest of the cat. You wouldn't want someone to adopt him and think they can take care of him just to later find out, Oh, too expensive! and let him loose!
