Default Family Court hearing in a couple hours... any advice???

Well, My friend got her act together (somewhat, since neither of us are attorneys and we basically are just winging it! )

She wants to ask for a continuance to get an attorney, but neither of us know how to do that or if it's even possible.

Also, what's going to happen? This will be the first time appearing before a judge (actually a commissioner. Who/what's the difference?) and I just wanted to know what she should expect and what to do?

    TIA!

I am not positive, but I am pretty sure she will just have to request a continuance and it will get approved or denied. The difference between a judge and a commissioner is a judge is legally elected & appointed to the bench. A commissioner is an attorney who is hired by the court. I wouldn't be nervous, it's probably not going to be half as bad as you're anticipating. Good luck.

I can't give any advise because I know nothing about the legal system, but I just wanted to say I am glad she is getting her act together for the kids sake and yours!!!

    no idea too
but i know commissioner is nothing like judge, it's just a small hearing but if the case doesnt come to a point of agreement then it will brings to the court.

    Good Luck.
