Default help, feeling sad, have the urge to splurge :(

the way i deal with my stress is by blowing large amounts of money on things... bags, electronics, nice things.

you guys know i cut up my credit cards, but i still have the numbers memorized. i really want to buy something right now even though i shouldn't. i probably won't but i had to let it out.

Whenever I feel the urge to splurge and I know it is depression speaking, I go exercise. When you are done walking, jogging, biking, whatever, go take a nice hot bath, and start a good book that you have been putting off. You need to eliminate the negative feelings.

Stay strong! Just keep in mind the horrible guilt that follows. It won't get rid of your stress, it will only make it worse!!! I am thinking of you:)

Aw this1chick, I am so sorry! What's bothering you? I think you will end up regretting it if you buy something. Buy yourself a cup of coffee or a book or something small. If spending is the way to deal with stress and you've cut up ALL the cc's then it seems to me like you've got to try and find a new way to cope, even though it isn't going to be easy! I am thinking of you as well.

Don't do it. The guilt you feel afterwords will only make you feel worse. And ask yourself, does buying something really make you feel better? Really take away the stress? Really make you happy and bring you joy? I think if you really think about it for a while, you'll know the answer. Next time you have this urge, think about what's NOT stressful in your life, what makes you truly happy, all the wonderful happy things in your life that you have to be thankful for, your adorable son, etc.

Sorry you're feeling down. If you give in to your compulsion to shop, you will only get a momentary high followed by the guilt that you've again, let yourself down. Distraction is the key, keep busy, find another outlet to destress you - for me it's exercising. Also, instead of giving in to an urge to buy right away, sleep on it and you'll be surprised how differently you look at things in the morning. You can do it! Stay strong.

Can we ask what it bothering you? Maybe we can help. As for you having an urge, try going and doing something else. A good distraction might help. Like can you go window shopping instead of internet shopping. You can still have those good "shopping" feelings just from looking and stuff (and touching and smelling stuff ). But you won't be able to buy anything because I don't know of any store that will just let you recite your cc number at checkout. LOL!

bRs that just totally made me LOL!

well, i posted about this before (what's making me feel down) so it's sort of the same thing, it's the rollercoaster emotions of a breakup. unfortunately, lrc123, one of the things you listed is what i don't currently have -- a loving husband (or boyfriend, in this case, who happens to be my DS's father). he moved out about 1 1/2 months ago but we still have daily contact on account of our son. he's been extremely rude and a downright jerk to me on occasions. i guess i can't really expect for him to be super nice to me since he is the one who moved out. but there is a certain disrespect that really angers me and then after i get over the anger it's sadness. i'm trying to pull it together... but almost all of my handbag purchases occurred in this span of 1 1/2 months.

i didn't buy anything from this urge today / yesterday (whenever i posted this)... i still want to though. but i've just been spending the day cleaning the house so i feel somewhat better.

thanks for all the thoughts ladies... it really makes me feel supported.

my heart goes out to you. it must be really hard for you, but i think you are a lot stronger than you think. from your posts, i can "hear" someone who still can stay positive and keep a sense of humour. and of course you have that adorable little guy who looks up to you. it must be really hard when your ex is being disrespectful to you. he's probably being a jerk cause he's hurt too and is unhappy about something within himself.

you can't mope around thinking about this. if you could get someone to look after your DS, kick on some heels, grab those lovely bags you've got get out there with your friends and be fabulous!

Hi girl. Sorry you're down. Don't beat yourself over it because it's natural to feel how you're feeling given the circumstances. Doing something physical, like MrsJones said, always helps because it affects both your body and mind in a positive way. Like others said, giving into the urge will result in a quick high followed by an even deeper low--so do try to do your best to resist the urge to buy something. Music, physical activity and stepping aside of myself to get some perspective and calm down always seem to help me. Hugs.

thanks again girls, i can definitely feel the LOVE tonight... (cue music from Lion King, which, btw, whenever i've been watching it with my son lately i start bawling everytime that song comes on ) i can't go out tonight b/c i'm watching my son but maybe next week... but i am going to try to resolve to go running or biking tomorrow when i get home from the football game. i have to do that anyway, i still haven't shed my baby weight

i still can't stop giggling whenever i think of standing at a cash register reciting my cc number to the cashier.

Sorry to hear, I know that life can be rough at times. I think that you should buy something small, even like a piece of candy! There have been times when I really did not have the money and I just needed to buy something, and buying something small, even a piece of candy really made me feel better. I think it's just that feeling that you got something. It's worth a try!
