Sorry to hear about the car and your disagreement with Mr. bRs... but he should understand you as well, it is your safety and confidence in the car that's involved anyway.... Maybe he can be mad at the fact that after all the checks you didn't ask about the ABS but not say nasty things to you....

Anyway, can't you go to the car's manufacturer and have ABS put on or something?

I thought it had ABS because in the folder of records we got, there was something in there that listed what I thought were the car's features. But perhaps these were just options and not necessarily what the car has. Plus the car has all these other fancy features like a powered sunroof, CD player, power antennae, alarm system, factory tinting, spoiler, fog lamps, etc etc. If it has all of these other nonstandard features, then why on earth doesn't it have ABS too? It never occurred to me to ask the mechanic people if the car had ABS or not. I just assumed it had it. As far as having one installed, I seriously doubt it. One of my old cars had a problem with its ABS and it was well over $2000 to have a new one put in. That's an awful lot to pay when the car was only $5,000 (which was more than what we should have spent anyway). But we've talked things over today and we're just going to keep the car and deal with it. I have been way to emotional lately, so stupid things make me become hysterical. Maybe I have some sort of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or something.

So do you guys think I'm being melodramatic? I hope nobody thinks so. I was just really upset because I had spent so much time trying to find a car and then once I have it I realize it doesn't have things I thought it had. You guys think I'm crazy don't you? LOL!

I don't think you are crazy bRs! You are a normal woman. I understand how you feel, I hate it when you try to make everything perfect and then something is just not right.

I don't think you're being crazy or dramatic either! I would probably have the same reaction, especially since it's causing tension between you and your DH!

hm..hmmm if you really need a car with ABS, can you sell the car again and get another one? or trade in and get another car...? by the way, what car is that?

If you have front-wheel car, and you probably do, you should be OK. Just be extra careful. People drove without ABS for decades on the snow before this system was invented and put in cars. They probably skidded more too, but then again, nowadays some people rely on the ABS a bit too much and aren't as careful when driving.

We're not going to sell it. It's pretty much out of the question.
linvline, it's the Nissan Altima. Remember, the one that I didn't like because it is white and the antennae is missing?

I remember ABS was a pretty new thing towards end of 90's in the UK, I know that most older cars over here don't have ABS and are pretty safe. I think maybe its just something you may need to just become acclimatised to when driving, but I'm sure you'll be fine!

The original owners probably didn't have it because they didn't know what it was or they were being cheap or they lived somewhere they didn't need it.

Where I live, we get ice not snow and it doesn't matter if you have ABS or not, you are going to lose control on bad roads.

You're not being melodramatic. I mean - you are going to have to drive this car for a few years. I would just learn how to drive it. My husbands old car didn't have it and you had to pump the brakes if you were in snow. Just get your dad to show you - your dh sounds grumpy at the moment.

You've been through a lot lately - so give yourself a break and don't be afraid to tell Mr. bRs to give you a break. (or Brake...no pun intended)

    ^^^ LOL!

Well, we got the $30 antennae installed today. OMG, that was insanely difficult. Stupid book made it look so easy. But a piece of the old mast was stuck inside there and it was really hard to get out. The new one is in now and works great. I think Mr BRS is pretty happy. I think he just likes watching it go up when you turn the car on.

So what do you think? Mr BRS said I could have a new stereo system installed for Christmas. Hmm... wonder if that is more for him?

    LOL

Reminds me of my ex. He did that one year for Valentines day. We had just bought the 99Accord Coupe and the CD player didn't work. I didn't caer because I could control the radio on the steering wheel - I liked that. Weeellll...he decided to "Suprise" me by getting a sound system put in...I was pissed because I couldn't use the little buttons on the steering wheel to change radio stations.

I went to class all pissed off and one girl was like "why are you mad" and I was like "my husband bought me a GD sound systme for my car" The girl was like

After I thought about it, it sounded pretty bitchy but it always bothered me that I had these buttons on the steering wheel that you couldn't use.

However, when I traded the car in, the dealership threw in an extra $250 for the system because they had someone there that wanted to buy the car specifically because they liked the sound system (I was there working up the deal when the new owner was there...)
