    Default Hurricane IKE

Does anyone else live in South FL??? I might have to evacuate.. and that's awful!! I'm packing my huge suitcase.. with all my shoes and purses. LOL... Luckily my brothers live in Orlando (he works for Disney) so I have a place to go. It stinks when people have to go to the shelters.

OMG, I've heard about it on the news. That's so scary. How long do you have to evacuate for?

    Have a safe trip Marissa

We will know in 48 hours if we have to evacuate for sure. No worries.. I'm bringing my lap top.. my brother has wifi. LOL.. um we have to evacuate for the duration of the storm... and if there are down power lines we are not allowed to come back until they are up. But usually once the storm is done.. they allow people back into the city. But then once you evacuate you lose electricity which usually goes as soon as there is one poof of wind. Then you have the fear while you are away of looters.. and people breaking into your house stealing everything. Luckily since I live right near the beach... we are required to buy full coverage insurance.. inside and out of your house. SO anything happens.. or gets damaged.. we get a check. But most people in South FL.. with the horrid economy are losing their houses left and right.. and can not afford insurance.

LAst time Wilma hit.. we had extensive damages.. in the city... all the high rises... the windows were blown out. Fema did a LOUSY job... getting people that had nothing what they needed.

Scary... but I have a place to go. Just sucks... for Hurricane Andrew.. I live SUPER close to the beach.. my house was flooded to the MAX! I'm talking water up to your knees. But the insurance paid for everything. We got new furniture all over the house, tiles, pretty much everythign was done over b/c of the fear of mildew.

    YUCK!

Uh-Oh!! That's not good! We Brits like to whinge about our rubbish weather, but I suppose we're quite lucky, its once in blue moon we get Tornado's...but with all the flooding and stuff it isn't great! Will Ike be affecting Orlando at all? I fly out on the 12th. Did you manage to take enough clothes and things with you? Hope you remember everything!!!

Marissa, head to a upscale grocer and grab some Rescue Remedy. Also, you might want to contact your vet and see if there is something you can give the cats. I suggest putting them 2 to a cage so they can snuggle.

My parents live in Fort Myers and haven't said anything about evacuating. Is it just the east coast?

Marissa, good luck and stay safe! I've been hearing about this on the news and was thinking whether any tBFers were affected. Can't imagine if we had to do with with two young kids. Sounds like you're taking it all in your stride.

Um... Aug - October is a BAD time to visit ANY part of FL. We are the hurricane state... South FL is getting the hurricane (they think) as a Cat 4.. 145 winds on Tuesday which is the 9th.. it takes a hurricane about a day & 1/2 to go through.. then travel all the way up. I would def. call your airline.. and see what's up. When hurricanes go through FL.. there are no flights in or out for about 3 days.
