Re: Cars... What would you buy?
Alright, test drove the Maxima for a second time today. We are now concerned that it may have a problem with the transmission. When you accelerate, it has trouble shifting into the next gear. I guess you would call it a rough transition when it's shifting up.
So now we're looking at the Altima again. We're going to have my dad come look at it with us tomorrow, hopefully. The only problem we can see so far is the antennae is broken off. Well, that and it's white. LOL!

We don't know yet. We're going to see what it will cost though before we decide anything. This really sucks because we're having to sort of rush in picking out a car. I don't have a car right now and classes have started. I've been borrowing my dad's car, but he really wants it back because he's been having to drive his truck to work (60 miles round trip everyday) and it gets horrible gas mileage.

My dad has a Maxima that has over 300,000 miles on it. Yep...he's beat the CRAP out of that car and it still keeps going. I think it's a 2000 year model.

Re: Cars... What would you buy?
Alright, it looks like the Altima is going to the mechanic tomorrow for a pre-purchase check. We drove it again today. My husband really thinks we should get it if everything checks out okay.

Re: Cars... What would you buy?
I've had a Maxima. Not sure of the year and my mom is asleep by now but it was around the year you are looking at. I can't say enough good things about it. In fact, we were in a major car accident and if we had been in the Celica I had driven previously, I wouldn't be here.
Anyway, the car was perfect until the accident and had over 70,000 miles on it, mostly freeway, because I was driving almost 1,000 miles a week, driving from New York City back to Cleveland on weekends to see my Grandma, who was in a nursing home.
I would say that is a good choice. Although, I would check carfax to make sure it hasn't been in an accident because once mine was, it was never the same and always in the shop.

Re: Cars... What would you buy?
We did a Carfax report and there wasn't anything bad on it. Everything was labeled "No Issues Reported". It also gives information about the owners and mileage reports, all of which were consistent with the dealer's story. I think I mentioned this before but he said he knew the people who had owned it and they gave him all the service records for the car (which he showed us).

Re: Cars... What would you buy?
It sounds like your best bet! Aside from the antenna, but you can get that fixed. Hopefully it's not too expensive!!

Re: Cars... What would you buy?
I hope everything will work out okay. I'm obviously not in love with the car, but what I don't like about it is all stupid stuff. Mr BRS says I need to focus on whether the car will be reliable or not... not the color or the missing antennae or the fact that the doors don't automatically lock when you put the car in gear.

I second the Corolla.
NVM: Altima's nice too.

Re: Cars... What would you buy?
^^^ Yeah, we scoured the city for both Toyotas and Hondas and none were to be found. This car search turned out to be a lot harder than I thought. I was so focused on deciding what kind of car to get... but then found there wasn't much to choose from in those brands. ::sigh:: Oh well, the Nissan Altima still seems promising at this point.
