Idea Story of your first handbag

not sure if anyone started this topic before but i would like to talk about how i get my first handbag and how it affects my handbag addiction~

ok, i wasn't a girly type person, basically i only knew some designer brand but not interested in buying it, mainly becuz i can't afford it and i was stupid enough not to appreciate the beauty of it. Somehow I slowly realize so many friends carrying gucci, ysl, LV and so, i was kinda embrassed, I got myself a pochette like purse from Guess (only $40?!) and used it for 1 year until my sister wants it.

I never really have any nice handbag until 2 yrs ago, I shopped at Coach store and decided there are 2 bags i really like, so i decided to get both. My bf paid for one because he said i never have a nice bag.

I guess from then on, i have my heart on handbags.

    what about your story??

Being a mom to three boys started my obsession to handbags. I didn't want to carry around bulky diaper bags anymore. I was in the mall one day and wandered into The BonTon and I found a Liz Claiborn backpack. I thought it was perfect. I could carry something stylish and the babies diapers and bottles at the same time. No more bulky diaper bags. Although, my hand bags just seem to get bigger and bigger...Because I keep acquiring stuff in my handbags that are not my own anymore. I may have to switch back to a diaper bag again. I believe Juicy makes some cute diaper bags...

My fascination with fashion started very early. I was an avid fashion mag reader when I was in elementary school. I became a "label w***e" when I was in the 7th grade. It started with the designer jeans craze. I looked at the fashion magazines and tried to duplicate their styles. Everything I bought from then on had to be designer. I went through my prep stage where I only wore Ralph Lauren and Izod. I went through my designer jeans phase when I only wore designer jeans. This was before I even got into high school

When I got in high school, it was all about fashion then. I began to take the fashion mags and develop my own style instead of copying what I saw. The big problem I had was I lived in NC. Not only did I live in NC, but I lived in a NC city with one mall and limited access to the designer labels I read about in my fashion mags. We had the jeans and some of the designers, but I wanted something that no one else had. I loved being different and having things that no one else had. Not only that, but I became a fashion snob. Where I lived, there were a dozen flea markets that sold all the fake stuff you could get your hands on. My friends would snatch that mess up and walk around like they had the real thing. Honey, I wasn't havin it. My stuff had to come straight out of a reputable distributing retailer. See, my Moms schooled me on how to shop. She taught me how to look at the seams and stitching. She told me how to recognize a fake and where not to shop. You quickly learn why that shirt is so cheap. Wash it one time and it's finished. She taught me that it's not really cheap if you can wear it only one time. You get what you pay for. Yeah if you haven't guessed, I was a spoiled brat. Even worse than that, I was a Daddy's Girl. So, you know I got whatever I wanted. My Moms didn't play though. She has always been known for being the best dressed any place she set foot in. That definitely rubbed off on me. She also taught me that it doesn't matter who gets the outfit first. What matters is who looks better in it. The next person paid full price for the outfit and looks a complete mess. My Moms gets the same outfit on sale and fixes it up and looks like a million bucks. You get the both of them in a room together and all eyes will be on her everytime. You wouldn't even know that they had on the same outfit. I've seen it with my own eyes. I have always been amazed by my Moms. Man, can she walk in a room. She is still the sharpest thang in the room to this day.

My senior year rolls in. By this time, I'm well know for being fashion forward. My hunger for different designer duds grew. With all the fake stuff floating around, it was very important that I be authentic and fashionable. Back then the big thing to have was a Gucci bag. There were all kinds of knock off that emulated the double G's, but I wasn't havin that. I wanted the real thing. Believe it or not, in my little country city there was a store that carried Gucci and Fendi bags. Belks was a department store like Macys and Dillards. They had a lot of the big name designers. They had a section in Belks called the regency room. They had the big labels there. This was my Moms favorite place to shop. Anyhoo, I would always look at the Gucci bags. I could never decide which one to get. Well, this store decided that it wasn't going to carry the Gucci and Fendi bags anymore because no one there was buying them. They shipped the Fendi bags to another store in a bigger city, but put the Gucci bags on sale. I did a happy dance and quickly hit my Moms up for a bag. Of course me being me, I didn't want the boston bag like all the fake ones everyone else was carrying. I had to get the biggest one. I got the shopper!! Yes, big and in your face GG's all over the place. I was the only girl in school with the real deal. So, you know you couldn't tell me nothing....ha ha. What's even crazier is the amount I paid for the bag. Well, my Moms paid $62 for that bag on sale. I think it had been marked down twice. It was originally $125. That was back in 87. I still carry my shopper too.

So, that's the story of my 1st designer bag. To this day, Gucci is my favorite. I love Gucci everything. I have yet to buy any clothes. I can never really find anything that I like. I do have plenty of shoes though I love the shoes. I also got a Gucci charm for my charm bracelet. Aww the life of a label w***e....it's the greatest
Your Double GG's turn into Guess Guess when I walk in the room. Nobody can walk a bag like me

I can't even remember getting my first designer bag. I got it my first Christmas, I was 3 months old! My mom bought me a LV Mini Sac & my aunt bought me the matching monogram strap. I always carried my bag around when I was a little girl & my love for Vuitton grew & grew as I got older!

My first handbag was my Coach Carly which was purchased at Christmas time. My husband took me to the mall to pick out my Christmas present, and after a depressing walk through the jewelry stores (nothing in my price range was anything I wanted...the only things I wanted were really expensive)...I was like...hey...let's look at purses! He thought I meant like...JC Penney junk purses, and he was like...no...

but then I took him to Dillards and showed him the Coach purses, and he was all for me getting one. Then, I chose my dark brown Carly and then purchased a matching wallet online...woohoo!!

Since then, I have gotten a Chocolate/Gold demi pouch, patchwork pouch, braided chelsea hobo, and ergo hobo from Coach and my Louis Vuitton Marilyn...

Hopefully adding the Montorgueil for Christmas and maybe the Azur Speedy 25 for my birthday next June...

    wow... amazing stories

Diva, your mum sure taught your right, i love what she said it doesn't matter who gets the outfit first. What matters is who looks better in it. love it~~ I'm not that lucky like you, my parent want me to buy everything from my own saving because they don't want to spoil me (materially). That's why i only have sense to fashion and accessories on my mid 20s. Now that i work for a lingerie company, everyone talks about fashion and with all the mags company subscribed, there you go.

vuittongirl....... -_- 3 months old!!! are you kidding me?!! i would never buy my kid any LV... i'm stingy...hahaha...

    Diva,
that's so sweet of your DH!!! You have great collection on coach!! We had almost the same first handbag story and we had our first handbag from coach. Eventhough i'm not buying coach for myself for a while (bought it and returned it twice this year), but i bought for my mum and sis. I always love coach, it means something special to me. I browse coach stores and website at least 5 times a month

Oh my "addiction" started when I saw a friend who owns LV and she said she had it for 14 years already. I like how it looked so vintage so I started noticing the buy and sell section on one forum i'm a member of. then there's this monogram noe I saw for sale. I started researching and found this forum and registered so I can ask if the bag is authentic. Everybody said I'm good so I bought it and now I'm LVphilliac. I've accumulated 6 bags ever since I received my first baby and oh my tribe is growing. I guess I could say it's a happy ending for me, not for the DH.

I don't even remember. I've been around it because of my mom. I grew up in DKNY, Esprit and Polo when all I wanted was to be wearing Limited like my friends. As for bags, I've had Coach for as long as I can remember. And a Gucci here and there. Shoes were the same way. My mom bought me more expensive shoes because I have nerves at the edges of my feet and she had a size 5N foot. So we both wore Ferragamos and Bruno Maglis.

I don't remember my first handbag, but my first designer bag was a Prada evening bag that DH got me for Christmas in 2001. Then DH bought me a Prada shoulder bag so I got hooked on Prada. I've been carrying Prada wallets until now. I then moved on to Gucci and got a Chanel. I was still naive about handbags though. I had a brief fling with Dior and now obsessed with LVs. DH actually got me my first LV - a mono pochette but I had not used it for years but it's seeing more light of day now.

But my first designer bag which is a Juicy Couture Velour Quilted Bag I got from ebay last year and just kept going... some of my nine west and kvz bags I got from my DH when we were Bf/Gf...lol. I bought my first handbag when I was 15, which is now 20 years ago. I saved my money for this beautiful brown leather bag which I paid $110 for. Believe it or not I kept it until 6 months ago when I sold it on Ebay for $60. It broke my heart to sell it, but I was holding on to it only for sentimental reasons. The girl that bought it was so happy when she received it, that her feedback read " I'm in love with fashion because of this bag, thanks heaps ". This made the sale all worthwhile, as I knew it had gone to a good home.:turned:

awww, that's a great story. I love it when people leave feedback on how much they love your stuff. I sold my handbags and the buyers were so thrilled that I felt really good. And those bags were lying around in my closet being ignored.

I'm just so not used to selling my stuff, i don't know.. but it's hard to depart me and my belonging!! Now i just make myself getting comfy with donates all my clothes which i didn't wear them for more than 6 months.

i cant really sell my bags away, every bag is a story for me... ( or an encouragement gift to myself)
