    Default My dog died

So as some of you know, I have been away in China for 2 weeks and I'm also leaving to go on vacation (back home and then out to the hamptons) for a week in a few days. Well I got a phone call from my mom this morning. I had my little perfect tea-cup maltese since I was 6 years old!! Her name was Tammy. When I moved out of my mom's house at 21 to move to Vermont, by the time I came back to visit her, she was deaf and blind. It was a terrible shock to me. For about 2 years after that she was doing well but apparently my mom told me that while I was in China this month, she seemed to be in a lot of pain so my mom took her to the vet and put her down. She swore that she would never let Tammy suffer and once the vet said that it was her kidneys and it was either pumping her up with drugs or putting her to sleep, my mom took the really hard choice of putting her to sleep.

My mom told my boyfriend but didn't want to tell me while I was away. She also didn't want to ruin my upcoming vacation by having me find out on my own. So she called me this morning because it fit perfectly in between both.

I'll miss her like crazy. I was an only-child for about 12 years so she was almost like a sister to me!! I know it sounds crazy but I would make up silly games and she really was the PERFECT little girl's dog. She was so loving and happy. God bless her little soul.

This picture is of me and Tammy when I was about 17. She was my little muffin!

Sorry to hear that Susie. As a dog owner myself I know how hard it is to go through something like that. It's amazing how we can get soOoO attached to them. They're like part of the family. Hope you feel better soon...

    Susie,
I'm sorry for your loss. It's so hard to lose a loved one. My 24 yr. old, Henry, is in kidney failure and I know it's just a matter of time. You are never ready to say good-bye, even when you know it is for the best. Just be happy she has crossed the rainbow bridge and will never feel pain again. She's up there chasing rabbits, eating whenever she wants (filet mignon) and getting pets galore.

I'm so sorry for you. My first cat Sylvester was 12 when he died of kidney failure and I had him when I was six until 17. It was really hard as we grew up together. In time, you will focus more on the good times you had and it will get better.

I know what it's like to lose a pet, we had to put my boxer, Tyson, to sleep...and he was only going on 8 years old (he had cancer) and he lost soo much weight in just a week . I was so sad since we had him since he was a small puppy.

Susie, I'm so sorry for your loss! *hugs*

Sorry to hear about your doggie Susie! Just remember that she lived a very long and happy life with you and your family. I'm sure she is happy where she is now, so try not to feel too sad. I know it can be really hard, but try to think about all the good times you had with her. We get so attached to our little furry friends, I know it can be really hard to let them go.

hey everyone - thanks for the wonderful messages. so i got this story from my mom which i thought i'd share with everyone. first i'll say that my mom and step-dad have this very close friend, glen. glen is a psychic. people travel all over to see him and try to contact their passed loved ones. since my family is very close with him, he gives them readings occasionally. however, my stepdad is really always skeptical and likes to "test" him so he purposely doesn't tell him anything hoping that he'll pick it up.

so he was doing the reading to my stepdad (and it was tape recorded - he records all his readings). all of a sudden he goes "okay so i see a little dog with your mother. she's new and she seems to remember your mother and they are both very happy together. not only is this little dog there but there is also another larger dog that is with your father. they are running around and seem really happy"

so basically - my stepdad's mom loveeeed Tammy. she would watch Tammy when we went out of town. so Glen picked up my little pooch but the OTHER large dog was actually my stepdad's dog from years ago that he grew up wiht. it was his one and only dog who was very close with his father (his dad was a firefighter and their dog was a dalmation...too cute).

So if you don't believe in that stuff - it's okay not to. BUt ya know, when it's my time to go I really really do take comfort in the knowledge (well...hope) that my little munchkin will be there waiting for me.

I love that, Susie. I absolutely believe in seeing our pets when we pass over. It wouldn't be heaven if we didn't.

Does Glen live in Florida by chance?

Susie- sooo sorry for your loss. I love all my pups and it would hurt me so bad to lose even one. Sometimes I have nightmares that their is a hole in the fence and while they are outside for just a half a minute they get out the yard and someone on the street finds them and steals them and I never see them again...
Ridiculous to imagine and soo dramatic, but still the thought of our dogs not being in our life is hard to fathom. So I am their with you in spirit since we are in the toy dog family, and I hope you feel better soon.

Sorry to hear about your baby dying! I don't know what I'd do if my little man died, they are such a joy, those who don't have dogs or cats just don't know what they are missing do they?
