Guy - Yep, they're pretty big... but there are rodents out there bigger than they are. LOL!

Zombs - Their gestation period is 111 days. They can have anywhere between 1 and 4, but the average is 2. The babies are born fully furred, eyes open, and able to eat solid foods.

Viva - Yeah, I know. It's really sad. But that is why they are hear. People made them into fur coats. I would never buy anything made of chinchilla fur. They are way cuter alive!

Actually Jess... the babies are about the size of hamsters. An adult chinchilla is about the size of a large grapefruit. So I suppose it would be like a normal human giving birth to a baby the size of a watermelon.

    But they are super cute!!!
I couldn't get my scanner to work, but I found a picture on the internet of 2 kits that are 2 hours old.

Aw poor little babies!! They're so cute!

I have a hamster (which most of my family likes to call a "rat") and he's super cute. I had an incident like this where I left his cage door open and he crawled out and fell about 3 feet to the hardwood floor. I freaked and thought he got into the sliding doors and went into the wall. He was hiding behind the Christmas tree!

So glad your smart doggy knew what to do!

It depends on their personality. Some like to be held and scratched behind the ears... and others want nothing to do with you unless you have food.

do you put them in those giant plastic balls and let them run around the house? I had a friend who had hamsters and let them run around... It was sooooo funny!

Nashville - We tried it, but unfortunately the biggest ball isn't big enough. There's not enough room for them to hop, so they're forced to crawl awkwardly. They love their flying saucer exercise wheel though. It's a flat disk that's mounted on a stand... its sort of like them running on a record player, if that makes sense.

I called my dog over (she's a doxie) and told her to "find Gus". Within minutes she had found him under the dresser in the bedroom!

That's the sweetest thing EVER!!! Chinchillas are soo soft, I hear they have the nicest fur because of the # of hairs per sq. in., is this true? Yours are adorable!

Chicken - Yep, unfortunately that's why people made them into coats. Good thing chinchilla fur isn't as popular anymore. Like I said, they are way cuter when they are alive!
