Thumbs up TBF Meet: Chicago July 2009

Okay so we have been talking about this for a while now over in the mod room and we can not decide a location. If we were to have a TBF meet, what city would you choose.

This is like the discussion - voting thread.

Dont think I am biased simply because I could ride into NYC on the train from my front door, but you would think the fashion epicenter of the world would be the best choice, right? Plus it is cheaper to fly from coast to coast then into the center of the country.

Of course, I'd say Houston since I live so close but I will also be in Chicago June 14-18.

I also wanted to mention a few things for picking the city. If this is a meet for everyone from across the country, then a few things should be considered:

1 - Public transportation. Not everyone wants to or is old enough to rent a car when they travel, I have been pretty much everywhere and the places with the best public transportation for me have been NYC (complicated, but extensive), Washington DC (EASY, cheap, CLEAN, and extensive via bus and rail), Chicago, and Atlanta.

2 - Weather. NYC is fairly miserable in the summer, but is beautiful in the fall. Especially if you are walking a lot. Seattle, despite it being cliche, IS rainy pretty much all the time, then again its also a fabulous city full of fun activities. Atlanta is called Hotlanta for a reason, and Texas can be pretty sweltering as well, but also has several great major cities. Many cities are completely untravelable in the winter for flight reasons.

3 - Shopping. Boutiques, showrooms, and stores should cover a wide number of price points as well as be relatively close to one another so as a team we arent schlepping all across the city to shop - I assume we will be group shopping? Having to take trains, cabs, carpools, etc. everytime you want to hit a different store would be SUCH a pain in the butt.

4 - Expense. As I said before you can get better deals traveling frequently flown markets, and thats typically coast to coast and DFW, Miami, Atlanta, and Chicago.

5 - Time. Many of us are students and that knocks out a HUGE amount of the year, although deals are prevalant during univeristy break periods.

And my last thought on the matter. While on TPF I witnessed the planning of many meets, including Hawaii, Paris, and a cruise. What if the plan was made to get a group deal on an actual vacation and we took a cruise or vacation to the Bahamas or Hawaii, even Alaska - my old office took an Alaskan cruise, said it was amazing. There might not be many LV boutiques in San Juan, but it would be fun! My friend and I looked into a cruise and also an all inclusive vacation, and they told us if we got as few as 10 people we could get a week at a luxury resort for under $400 a person INCLUDING AIR FARE. I see so many women on here who work so hard in jobs, as moms, BOTH, students, etc...maybe what everyone needs is a vacation to drink and get pampered, blow off some steam? It could be a summer 2009 thing that everyone works towards, like a vacation support group!

Then again, just my thoughts.

that sounds great but i'd personally want to stick with staying in the states. and i think less people would be able to go (myslef included) if it were planned outside of the U.S. or as a cruise, etc. just my thoughts on that though...

oh, and my vote goes to NYC. NYC is the heart of the fahsion world (in the U.S.). and i'm not just saying that because i live close. there would be so much to do there...we really couldn't go wrong with that choice.

FL and CA don't really interest me. i say a major city would be amazing!!!

^^i just figured if you spend $400 to fly from one coast to another, why not get free lodging, food, drinks, etc in the deal. maybe it could be a secondary meet, as i am still looking into getting a group of friends together to do it anyway.

and alicia i do agree - plus, i think NYC offers a fashion tour which might be fun!
