I think we need to see if there is a way to get a discount or group rate on hotel rooms regardless. I'm sure I'm not the only one that can't or doesn't want to pay $600 for airfare and a couple of days in a hotel. I guess people could double up if they wanted to... just as long as one doesn't stiff the other person (sorry, but you never know!). But for people wanting to bring their SO it's going to cost even more.

When I was in chi-town back in 2005 I got a room at the Chicao Crowne Plaza. I was there for 2 nights and three days, two king size bed and I paid $125.00. Four of us slept in the room. It was beautiful and spacious :) Here is some info in case anyone need it. It was a group rate! Loved the pool!

It might be worthwhile for Jennifer (or another mod) to contact a travel agent or something...at least get some rooms at a decent rate. I would imagine you could get a halfway decent hotel for $80-$90 per night.
I wouldn't drive in, though because parking in Chicago is expensive...figure at LEAST $50 per day.
Hubby and I have talked about running up to Chicago one weekend for a romatic getaway (there is a train that goes from Memphis to Chicago - takes about 10-12 hours not too bad for half the price of one plane ticket for two people)
We are saving to go to Florida for Christmas though, so it might be a couple of years before we get to go to Chicago!
It is much cheaper to fly into Midway instead of O'Hare. You can take the "L" train (orange line I believe) from there to N. Mich. Ave. or wherever you are staying.
I agree with NashDiva on not renting a car because parking is INSANE!! You can take the trains or a cab everywhere! You can get an unlimited 3 day train pass for like $12.
Yeah it's so close! Haha too bad you didn't live in Chicago itself, I bet that would've been awesome!
