So today during my scheduled weekly meeting I find out three things:
1) they are hiring a second person to help me - she is being offered the job tonight. this helps me in having her concentrate on the numbers side where I can focus my attention to just the designs!!
2) i have to go not only to Hong Kong and Shanghai this month but also Vietnam (by Hanoi)...never been there and I'm a little nervous.
3) i got a raise! it's only a 6% raise and he admitted it wasn't huge but he also noted the economic issues and what-not. so for now, i'm okay with that. he also mentioned how after many ex-girlfriends, he has come to the understanding that he does not give compliments out very often at all. he said that he is very very happy with my work and so is everyone in the company. he is extremely proud of me and respects me and my hard work. he thinks i'm going a fabo job!!! WOOHOO!!! that's really what i wanted...just to hear that i'm doing things right!!
i'm going out for mexican food to celebrate!!

Im a nanny and last year my 1st annual scheduled raise was 5% when I requested 10% and I still have to drive my own car! My holiday bonus which is typically 5% or more for nannies was less than 2%. I renegotiate in August and I dont anticipate it going well, especially since they know I buy lots of bags!
Congrats on all that though, sounds like your job will go more smoothly! Its always nice to hear your boss is happy with your performance.
ya i've been to Shanghai before for work - very very westernized!!! i was a bit disappointed. but i enjoyed the drive through the country to Pinghu for my factory visit.
well Jennifer, it's actually going to be LESS work than before. now instead of worrying about the margins, CMT, MOQ negotiating, I can concentrate on designing and developing the styles. once this new lady comes in - all the nitty gritty stuff (ie: issuing LCs, dealing with customs, paying invoices) can go through here.
thanks Curls! ya 6% isn't so bad and so far, because of the timing that I started the position till now, there is no way to evaluate the % of profit that i've made for the company. that won't be known until our first round of sales forecasts in December. hopefully once that happens - and it's positive - i'll see a bigger raise.

Maybe the next time you can negotiate and get a bonus based on the revenue you bring in or the $$ you save...
I have the opportunity to do an internal audit in Shanghai, Korea, or Taiwan if I want...but my hubby doesn't want me to go ... Did your cell phone work over there (dumb question, but we ALWAYs talk on the phone)

Well first off - Shanghai is VERY safe. As someone mentioned above, it's very Westernized and personally, it feels as if I'm on Wall St. in NYC. Kinda boring. Taiwan is also very modernized now so I wouldn't worry about that either.
Korea...depends. North or South?
No - my cell doesn't work there. I have a SMS card that I switch out when I go to Asia. However, I use Skype (skype.com) which is cheap and most of the time free (if your hubby also has it). I do a lot of video conference over that to my colleagues in Germany and Switzerland.
