Ya...company party last night. I have been vegetarian for 12 years now and only occassionally slipping where I'd eat shellfish. Well I went for an italian sausage last night...and I liked it a lot!!!
I don't think I will continue that trend though, it does gross me out to think of what I just ate.

I love meat! I tried to go vegan for about 6 months but it didn't last. So instead we donate exorbitant amounts of money to our local animal shelter, as well as volunteer there weekly. Clears the conscience and allows me to be the omnivore I love being.

There's nothing wrong with eating meat...in moderation.

BTW...did it make you sick or hurt your stomach?? I would think that your system would freak out especially with something like italian sausage!

I'm also a Vegetarian, I changed after I found out about the Cruelty to live stock, I slip up and eat chicken 2ce a year, (always get sick afterwards), but I haven't had pork or beef in years. It's nothing you can do about it now, Susie, everyone slips up every now and then. Vegan is super hard, Maevey, I did it for a year and I was super healthy but it was a struggle. I admire you for helping amimals. I donate as well. It does make you feel good knowing you're making a difference.

You shouldn't feel bad but I understand you make a commitment not to eat any meat so I'm sure it gets to you. I would think it would hurt your stomach, too. I have always been more of a chicken or fish kind of girl. But about 2 months ago I saw a report on my local news about how a packing plant was treating some sick cows and it made me sick to my stomach. I'm such a big animal person but at the same time I feel like as long as you eat the whole "kill" it's how it was intented. BUT after seeing the report I seriously thought about not eating meat again. Is fish really considered "meat" to a vegetarian? I realy don't know so that's why I'm asking.

Hi, QualityCouture. I was told when I first became a Vegetarian, because of the animal cruelty, that I am not supposed to eat fish either. That is a weakness of mine and I do slip sometimes, it's really hard. I admire the People who were vegitarians ever since they were children because it's not hard at all for them. I did see what they were doing to cows too and it brought tears to my eyes.

I know protien is SO important so how do vegetarians get protien in their diet without eating tofu? I eat cottage cheese but what else is there?

Yea, you're right about that and I didn't even think about it until I got a bruise that would not heal the the Doc told me because I'm not getting enough protein in my diet. There are protein vitamins but I drink a shake.

well as of a year ago - fish too was considered meat (as well as any fish broth, ie: miso soup). i just didn't eat anything with eyes. that basically sums it up.
i have not been sick and i do take vitamins. I eat a lot of dark leafy greens which provides B12 and iron. i eat a LOT of protein packed beans too. i stayed away from any meat substitutes bc I never thought that stuff was healthy. i went out for dinner last night to a very fancy place and got the vegetarian special. and ya...i took a bite of my boyfriend's pot roast. it was good but i think mine was better. i feel that as long as my money is not going directly to fund the factory farming, i'll try it. in the first case - they already BOUGHT boxes of meat and it was either going to be eaten or thrown out. i just look at it as supply and demand. and no - i didn't get sick! i was expecting to but i didn't. yay!!

I feel the same way, Susie. My Husband doesn't understand when I say that as long as my money isn't going towards funding animal cruelty I can't do anything about something someone else already bought. The times I did cheat it was not on my dime and I had nothing to do with the purchase.

Oh no Susie! I haven't eaten any animal (beef, chicken pork, seafood, etc.) in 5.5 years. I don't eat meat because I love animals way too much. I could only think of they're cute little faces or the fact that they were living and someone had to kill them for me to eat it. I don't ever have a "slip up" because I feel like it's wrong, and I can't ever see myself eating meat again. But all vegetarians are different and they do it for different reasons, so at least you're mostly doing it! Slip ups are totally fine!
I think it's hard for people who eat meat to understand people who don't. They ask if it's hard not to eat meat, and I say "Is it hard to put your clothes on in the morning?" It's just my way of life. I think if I was craving meat and fighting myself all the time to not eat it, then I shouldn't be a vegetarian because I wasn't that into it. Plus, there are different kinds of vegetarians, some who eat chicken, and some who eat fish, and I think people think that ALL vegetarians don't eat any animal.
