Default Designer Items You Value: Handbags vs Apparel vs Shoes

Is there anyone else out there whose values revolve more around designer handbags? In other words, does anyone else not care as much about designer clothes and shoes? I don't buy designer clothes and shoes - just brand names like Express, A&F, Old Navy, and stuff from stores like TJ, Marshalls, Macys, etc. If it fits, looks good, isn't expensive, and the quality is good, I could care less about where it's from. Ha, I even saw a really cute cover up at Walmart the other day , but I resisted due to concerns on quality.

Designer clothing and shoes don't carry the same meaning and values and are not worth as much as designer handbags are to me. Does anyone else feel the same way? Do you think it's weird that I will spend a lot on a designer bag but not buy high end label clothing and shoes?

I'm pretty much a snob with everything. If I find something that is good quality and/or cute from Target or another place that is less expensive I'll buy it. But I tend to go for pricey stuff. Although bags not so much. I don't like to spend over 1K for a bag and then it has to be special. And shoes not over $300.

^ see for me i would spend over $1000 for a bag. and I don't buy shoes over $100 usually. and I never buy pricey clothes...except for jeans, but then again, i guess that depends on what you consider pricey. jeans are the only thing i'm picky with and i would spend up to $200 for a pair if I loved them. but i've never spent more than $100, for example.

thanks for sharing Maevey!

I have a theory with jeans. I'll pay any price for a pair of jeans if they "make my ass look fabulous!" Last I counted I have 40 pairs of jeans. You can never have too many.

And then with bags, knowing I have 2 kids and nothing ever stays clean, it's just not worth it. but shoes. Ah, shoes. I love shoes. I have tons of them and I spend way too much of them. And 9 times out of 10 I'll opnly wear them once a year, if that. I have over 20 pairs of ballet flats, but they range in designers from Frye, to Kors to Target brand. I basically buy what I see and love.

Oh, I was thinking the same thing but was unsure of how to say it on here. So glad you borke the ice and brought that up!!!!!

I agree - If a pair of jeans make my butt look wonderful, they're sold! I've compared so many styles, washes and labels and they are all so different when it comes to making the behind look attractive. I swear there are some jeans that will take about 10 lbs off my ass and there are some that will add it on - by appearance, I mean. The best jeans I've ever worn in my entire life were from Abercrombies' 2004-2006 line. There was something about them that made my rear look amazing, but they don't make them anymore. So sometimes I'm lucky enough to get a like new pair off of ebay. Also, I did try a piar of Juicy Couture and True Religion jeans on over at our Saks outlet - they just about did the trick as well but I was broke at the time. All this denim talk reminds me that I should go and check 'em out again soon! Ok, I'm done rambling.....

Alicia - I totally agree with you. I don't care if my clothes aren't designer or if my shoes are. But, I do care about quality. Like, lately Target has carried really cute clothing and I buy from there...like bathing suits and some tops. I get my jeans from Pacific Sunwear (PacSun) because most store's jean don't fit me well - they're usually HUGE around my thighs. Lol, and Old Navy has been carrying cute clothes. Their shorts fit me well. But I do like the "designer" bags since they are better quality and sometimes handbags take a beating more than clothing and are worn more often.

But, for me, bottom line is....if it looks great and if it's decent quality and will last more than a week - I'll buy it!

I totally agree with all of you. Bags and jeans all the way!! While I'm a part time handbag lover, I'm a full time jean lover hehe.. I would definitely spend over $200 on a nice pair of jeans. I used to wear guess, and buffalo jeans, but ever since I tried on my first pair of Sevens, I never went back. Rock & republics and True religions are my favorites!! They make my bum look good like no other pair of jeans!
I used to spend a ridiculous amount of money on tops, especially the ones that were in style. Eg. Von Dutch, or Diesel (the ones with 'Diesel' written across the chest) ... I know, I know! I mean, with all that money, I probably could have bought a Chanel bag. After my 'little kid' phase, I started investing in plain tops which are GREAT for layering!

For shoes, I'm not much of a spender. I usually buy whatever that looks nice. I think the most I spent on shoes was just under $150 CAD. It's crazy how people would spend over $300 on shoes.. I think those Christina Louboutins are worth that much (I'm not exactly sure, but I know they are quite pricey.)
I'm sure the quality is great, and I would love to try on a pair, but the price tag makes me wheezy.

I guess I just don't understand the type of shoe fetish some ladies have, just like how some of my friends don't understand my bag and jean fetish..

The thing that bothers me about Old Navy and Target for me (even though I just bought 4 dresses there yesterday) is the fact that so many people are going to be wearing the same thing. And I have issues with that. I don't like to be wearing the same thing. Luckily my 4 closest friends all have totally different taste from me, but even so, one of them ended up having 2 of the same short sets last summer and it drove me batty because we hang out all the time. I ended up donating them half way through the summer.

Okay, shoes I'll spend exorbant amounts of money on if they are comfortable. I hate pinchy shoes. And I have really high arches so cheap shoes just don't cut it. That isn't to say I don't have some Target shoes because I do. But I love designer. Oh, and I my flip flop collection. I think I've hit 100. But since the dog eats any pair that is in her eye line, I have to keep a ton of them around.

For me Clothes come first, handbags and lastly shoes. I don't so much on shoes as I usually wear flats and I am very careless with shoes, I will normally wear the same shoe for a long time (months) and when they get a bit rugged or dirty I just throw them. My max for shoes is $150.

I'm a Bag, Shoes and Jean Princess... I could care less about a shirt. I love tees anyway. Now my dresses are quite costly also ( Mara Hoffman, DVF, Sky, Alice & Olivia and Marc Jacobs).. I guess it varies..

I agree with Samia. I'm not so much as a shoe person as my sister or mom. I mean, i like shoes but i won't spend 200 dollars on a pair. I usually spend 10-30 on a pair.

Jeans, however, is a whole different story. I love wearing designer jeans, they just fit you so right! I would spend 200+ if i love how the jeans look on me and the design of it.

Tees are whatever. I'll buy them from any store if it looks good on me and the material isn't ultra cheap.

I think we should also add Jewellery to this category. I spend more on jewellry than any of the above.
And I am one to spend a lot on a great work Suit, for special meetings and Launches and stuff.

^^^Oh great point Samia! Of course we can add jewelry to this section!

I don't wear a lot of jewelry. And I only like silver or white gold. Gold it a litle too flashy for me. I never spend a lot though. I mean, things from Claires or the Icing are more than good enough for me. I never even think about spending money on designer jewelry. The only thing that I wont wear cheap though are rings, but even they are not designer.

Overall, I am a designer bag and jean girl!

Jewelry is a weird thing for me. I will only wear platinum, love jewels, but only wear very special pieces. I don't change pieces out on a daily basis. I always my wedding set, my sapphire diamond anniversary ring and a matching sapphire and diamond bracelet. And then my cross necklace.
