    Default Guilty Pleasures...

Well here I am - my favorite thing ever - shopping online (or...browsing) with a fresh cup of coffee in my robe listening to Billy Joel.

Billy Joel is my guilty pleasure. He makes me laugh, cry, it's awesome. It reminds me of home - I remember being a little girl listening to his music on the radio and my parents were really into him too. My parents were awesome 70's type rebel bikers but classy...haha that's the best way to explain it. They were total hipsters!! It makes me emotional because I miss them a lot - I'm very close with my parents and just even being 5 hours away from them is difficult for me (even though I've lived out here for 2 years now).

Anyway - my parents used to be friends with Billy. They all grew up in the same area and my mom used to hang out with him and his old band in Syosset at the local club. My uncle also has a picture from YEARS ago when he was a probational officer - him and Billy were hanging out and as a joke he put Billy in handcuffs and they took a picture together. Well...hahahah who would have seen THAT future coming?!?

Ah ya so about 3 years ago my best friend and I went to see Billy Joel in NYC at Madison Sq Garden, it was amazing. We had people coming up to us telling us that we made their show so much fun because we were dancing and singing and probably the youngest people there. Haha!!

Oh and "NY State of Mind"...everytime I drive back home - the minute I hit the border of NY I turn up this song because it makes me so emotional!!!

Aw okay I'll stop my rambling...

That is really cool that your parents used to hang out with Billy Joel.
Just think, whenever you do get to see your parents it is a meaningful visit and you appreciate the time with them even more.
I wish that I could just pick up the phone and talk to my father. He passed away in October 2004 from cancer. I really hate that big "C" word!
Anyway all I am saying is be thankful for what you do have and the time that you get with your parents.
Me, always trying to find something positive...

Aw thanks Zombiegirl - I'm so sorry to hear about your father.

Ya I just wrote them both an email explaining how much I appreciate them. My mom has always had the role of being the nurturing one and my dad was mr. adventure! haha.

I am missing my parents so much! we are very close too, I am here in Turkey!!
Zombiegirl sorry about your father! I hate the big "C" too, my husband is a childhood cancer survivor, well not excatly this is his third time fighting with the stupid Cancer, thats what I am doing in Turkey. He is taking chemotherapy at Johs Hopkins here, and being here at this forum and talking to you all is my big escape from everyday looking at him suffering.
We try to go on with our lives as normal as possible, we shop, go out and enjoy ourselves. its bad enough that the cancer takes over your Body but we will not allow it to take over our lives!

    Sorry! just needed to vent!

Oh vent all you like...that is what we are here for.
I am so sorry to hear that you guys are going thru this. I know exactly how you feel, well maybe not you, but how your husband feels. I myself am a cancer survivor. I finished my chemotherapy and radiation in December 2006 and I have check-ups every 3 months now. I just had an appointment last Monday and got good results from tests. I really wish I would have known about TBF at that time, but I did have a lot of friend and family support during my sickness.
If you ever need to talk or vent you can PM me anytime.

my mom had cancer when i was a child and it's scarred me for life, honestly. it started with stomach pains and her stupid doctor told her it was nothing to worry about. she got a second opinon and they ran some tests and it turned out to be stomach cancer. the second doctor also said that if they didn't catch it right then and there, she would have died six months later. so the first idiot could have literally killed my mother . but anyways, they ended up removing 80% of her stomach. though i must say she has one of the biggest appetites...and i'm glad that i'm able to say that.

but i'm really sorry to hear about your stories ladies because it really beraks my heart. Zombiegirl, I'm very sorry about your father. I can't even imagine what you went through when you lost him. and i am also sorry to hear about your own episode but at the same time I'm happy to hear that everything is good with you...

and Samia, I feel so sorry for you and your husband. your attitude on how it shouldn't ruin your life is amazing though. and as Zombiegirl said, you can definitely vent here. we are here to listen to you and to take your mind off of it when you need it....

First time i've had tears in my eyes on this site...
My aunt died of cancer two years ago on V-DAY.... Its still really hard, and another of my aunts is going through cancer for the third time in the last ten years. Its so hard, especially after having someone pass away to have to go through it again.

I'm sorry zombiegirl about your dad! I don't know what i'd do if that happened to me...

Samia, keep the good attitude! I think its the best think you can do!
