Default So much for living in a quiet, nice town

So about 2 weeks ago my downstairs neighbors tell me that someone in the middle of the night went into our driveway and broke into their car. terrible right??!

well this morning, boyfriend and i go out to the car to get brunch and he goes "look at the porch" and im like "huh?" it was snowing so i figured maybe he cleaned up the steps. well we start pulling out and i see someone vandalized our from porch. on both sides of the handrails (mind you, it's a white house) in green marker are two "tags". words that mean NOTHING to me. so as we drive up the street I see 2 more homes with the same tags on it. how terrible!! both of the other two homes' owners are old, sweet people. one of them JUST had their house painted this summer and with living in vermont - getting a house painted is difficult because it's ALWAYS raining or snowing.

I swear - in my whole 21 years of living in NY - i've seen and heard more crap that happens here in vermont in the last 2 years than i did in NY!!

Cops wont be able to do anything except for making a useless report that does nothing.

well i hate to say this but we are pretty sure we know who it was. this is a very large college town (Burlington has about 5 colleges within the town, including the monster college UVM). The thing is - the college kids are really not that bad. they throw water balloons and get rowdy in their own house - i can live with that.

however - a strange initiative that VT state has is to import Nigerian refugees. so basically the "North End" is where all the refugees live. they are all low-income and really...very very noticable (let's be frank here...Vermont is not a cultural melting pot). i also don't think many of them even speak English - it's a shame really because there are NO job opportunities here, it's VERY cold and WHY WOULD ANYONE want to move here if they are used to hot climates?

anyway - it's our belief that it was probably one of the refugees. unfortunately, they have nothing else to do - can't find work - so they spend their free time doing things like this.

Oh ya... Jennifer - how is Seattle? I have a free round trip ticket to anywhere on JetBlue. Boyfriend and I have been entertaining the idea of eventually moving out to Portland or Seattle once our lease is up (June 2009). I have a few friends who already live in Portland but my issue with that place is that it's become a little TOO popular for me. i feel like it would just be like moving to a bigger Burlington. haha. Is it really expensive out in Seattle?

Ah...maybe we can meet up for lunch when I take my trip out there!

Totally yeah! I still consider Seattle a small town. Price wise I think it's pretty average depending on the area you are looking at. What I hate about living in the city (like in the city -- couple block from barneys / nordstrom / pike place) is all the free housing / recovery houses. You will have 2 condo buildings (550k+++) and in between the buildings there will be a rundown building with homeless people. it's ridiculous.
