Here's a good test...have your boyfriend take it to ANOTHER Audi dealership and see what they tell him. I found that I need my husband to do the car stuff because whenever I go, it costs more...but when he goes, they are more "honest" because he knows what he is talking about (even if I know what I am talking about, somehow they still fix more when I go...)
I was thinking about taking it somewhere else for the stuff that isn't Audi related. There are a few things on the list that say "flush brake lines" and "front brakes" - those type of things aren't exclusive to Audi, so I could take it somewhere else to get the work done and see how much they would charge. I know all these things need to be done but I don't want to do it all at once with such a huge price for it all (if my car was worth $30,000 then it wouldn't be so bad, but it's only worth about $10,000)

I just got back from the hospital to pay the orthopaedic people. It was terrible, we had to scrap together the money to pay the bill before tomorrow. If we didn't pay it by tomorrow, they weren't going to let us have any kind of discount (a lousy 15% to boot). ::sigh:: I wish they would have forgiven the bill like the hospital did. That was $1000 that we didn't have and luckily we don't have to pay now.

You are much bettter than I am. All they would have gotten from me would be $5 a month indefinately. If they bitched about it, they'd get $3.

I'm glad the hospital forgave the bill though!

LOL! Well the way I looked at it, we should at least pay something considering the hospital forgave a very large portion of the total amount we owed. Even though the orthopaedic office is a separate entity, the "small" amount we paid them was a fair trade-off for what we would have had to pay the hospital.

You might not even need any of the stuff done per se. They've done that to me before (Honda) but my car was under warranty ... and when I got home my husband was like...that's BS...your car is brand new...it didn't need all that it just needed an oil change and air filter change...

I think as long as they are ASE certified mechanics, they should be pretty good...I would look for someone that does foreign cars (Audi is German, right? I dont know..>I am just guessing).

NEVER!! change your transmission fluid. Every time someone I know does that...their cars get big problems.

I'd still have your dad, an older brother, or your boyfriend take your car in. It's disgusting the way they take advantage of women.

Ok so I just got back from Merhcant's Tire (they go by some other names other places, they're like a chain) - the guy basically said that with all that stuff on my list I could buy a new car. He said with my car being a 2000 and only have 74,000 miles on it, it shouldn't have that many problems. He said they would look at it for free, and then they would be able to tell if I really needed the stuff on the list. I asked him to give me an estimate of some of the costs, and they were about 50% less than Audi. So I cancelled my appointment for tomorrow and am going to bring in it to Merchant's. The total went from about $3500 to about $1500. And the things on the list may not even be things I need the guy said, so hopefully I'll have a better update tomorrow when I bring it in for them to look at.

That's what I thought when I saw your first post.

You're cars pretty and all, but that's why I buy cars new and then keep them through their warranty and then get rid of them (except my hybrid...I bought her new and she's already out of her warranty, but she saves $$$ in gas...)

I had a 99 V6 Accord Coupe when I was in college (it was used and had 90,000 miles on it but I HAD to have the FULLY LOADED car with the SUNROOF!)...I paid $14,000 for that sucker. Everytime something went wrong it was at least $250...I kept her until I got the hybrid (5 years) but still...my ex bought a brand new off the lot Hyundai for $10,000...so you can usually get a brand new car for cheaper than these loaded used cars and come out better in the end...

Glad someoen is doing it for cheaper!

Just got back from Merchant's (again). They said that almost everything on my list from Audi was BS and that I didn't need any of it. The guy said that if I needed all that stuff my car would have never passed inspection. All I need is new brake pads/rotors and 2 front tires with an alignment. A lot cheaper than $3500. It's still about $1150, but that's if I do everything. I'll buy tires somewhere else and get them put on for free.

p.s. not everyone can afford a new car and dispose of them at their leisure - i got the car i wanted and i just have to fix the small issues - i knew that was going to happen when i bought a used car, i just didn't think i need all that stuff audi was trying to sell me... good thing i got a second opinion
