Increased borrowing is increased debt no matter how you move it. Depending on the interest you may be able to refinance and have the same payment per month but the debt still increases. Be careful.

handbags - I am planning on getting a BA in biology with a minor in environmental studies.

I understand what you are saying about the debt. But I really don't see any other way to do it at this point. At least the interest rate would be lower than what I'm already paying on my credit cards. I would end up paying less in the end if you consider I was only able to make the minimum payments on my credit cards.

Unfortunately for you the interest rates on student loans went up this year. If you must borrow, try getting a credit card with zero interest for a year or better yet many cards offer to pay off other cards for 1.9% for the life of the balance. Second mortgages can be tax deductible.

Quick class hint: keep your books unless you are super smart and have an excellent memory. I have seen student after student fail because they forgot what they learned three courses ago and had no book to reference back to.

Gosh... I wish it was that easy. But no credit card company is going to want to give me another credit card. My debt far out weighs my income... so I seriously doubt I could score one of those cool balance transfer deals. Sorry... I don't mean to be argumentive or anything. I also think that another credit card probably isn't a very good idea anyway... considering MY history! LOL! At least with a student loan, I wouldn't be able to make impulse charges all the time.

So your daughter is dissecting frogs in the 9th grade? Wow! That was something I did in middle school. In high school we were dissecting fetal pigs, rats, sharks, clams, and those sorts of things. I never did take the physiology class though... they dissected cats in that class... But it was reserved mostly for students interested in going to medical school after they graduated... and I wasn't interested in that.

Hehe... and as for the books... I only sell books that I know I won't need again.

Default Update for anyone who is interested... still having trouble

Okay... I have decided to go ahead and go for it. I made an appointment in June with an advisor so I can figure out a class schedule. I talked to someone in the financial aid office and she said it was okay to take out a private loan to help cover living expenses. Well... here's my problem: I keep getting declined on loan applications! Great... just great... any suggestions? And no... my parents won't co-sign for me, I've already asked and they said NO.
