Thread: My place almost caught on fire!

No joke, it was pretty scary. So over a year ago I received a candle as a gift from Gilt for making it into the Gilt Noir Club, I have no idea what brand it is..



So I recently started using this candle, burning for no more than 30 minutes at a time because the scent was pretty intense, like it filled up the room within seconds. Anyway so last night I lit it up and went in the other room to put some clothes away.. about 30 or so minutes later Watson started crying (this isn't anything out of the ordinary, he does this everytime he's hungry). Then I smelled smoke.. ran into the bathroom and the candle jar was engulfed in a flame. The flame was about 4-5" above the glass and if I had anything near it, I'm sure it would have caught on fire (scary!). I couldn't even see the candle wax. I tried to blow it out and realized that wasn't working so I ran to the kitchen to get a pan to put over it (cut off the oxygen).. in the meantime Dan went in there and tried to blow it out and a couple splatters of hot boiling wax hit him in the face

This is what it looks like now. At first I thought it was the wax or something that caught on fire but after looking at the holder more closely it appears that the glass might have been what started it. I have no clue. What a scary experience. I had no idea that this could even happen! I guess I need to read the warning labels more closely, all though this one doesn't have one on it.

I plan on writing Gilt just to let them know of this and possibly email everyone who they sent candles too, but I'm first going to re-light the candle and take pictures.

Holy Cow, that's scary!! I am happy that everything is okay, other than poor Dan's face. I would email Gilt as well. I wonder if that happened to anyone else?

Wow...that is scary!! I think you should send the email! That is just crazy...

I know huh? I went to my parents yesterday to try and recreate the flame so I could have a picture to send them, but I ended up burning myself on the glass because it got so hot, so I gave up.

I think the story along with the photos that you already have will be enough. Please don't light that fire hazard again!

OMG Jen that is crazy! I would def write them something. So since I'm so late on this thread, a month has gone by, have you sent them anything or heard anything back from them?

I sent them an email a few weeks back but haven't heard anything back. But yea, I'm super cautious now about leaving candles lite in the other room.

Good thing no one was hurt! I would go ahead and get rid of that thing and use a fragrance spray.

Maybe I should go blow out my candles in the other room
