    Default Alex's Wedding Thread

Well we're in the very beginning stages of planning. Basically just looking at different ideas of reception locations, invitations, dresses, etc. We haven't set a date yet, because inevitably the place that can accommodate what we want to spend and have availability in the months we like will be where we have it.

Right now the idea is to get married at City Hall (which actually a lot of brides do here in NYC), and then have a reception at a restaurant afterwards. The ceremony (if we do it at City Hall) will just be our immediate family, and then the reception will be for everyone.

So bear with me on this thread as I throw out ideas, as it may be a little unorganized. I would love your opinions and thoughts, because after all, you are my TBF family

So I love Etsy.com, and I want to get my invitations from there, because there are so many amazing things to choose from. I haven't run it past Matt yet, but I love these for the "Save the Date" cards:
Modern Chrysanthemum Invitations by rockpaperdove on Etsy
They can be customized, so whatever we want to say on them they will do. I like the idea of a white background, with pastel pink, blue, and green flowers, similar to these:

I'm also leaning towards a tea-length dress, because the idea of a long dress makes me cringe. I always think they look beautiful on other people, but for me, all that fabric and everything that is going to be going on that day, it just doesn't work. I also don't want to spend a whole lot on the dress, because I think spending more money on the venue, food, and photographer are more important
Here are a few I've found that I like:

I've seen more in print, but of course can't find them online now. I'm kind of in love with the first one, although it might be just a tiny bit too long for my liking.

The two current restaurant locations that I'm looking at are:

The River Cafe (under the Brooklyn Bridge)

Batter Gardens Restaurant (right next to where we got engaged)

We're not going to have a wedding party, so no bridesmaids/groomsmen. TBH I don't really see the point of having one, especially since it's going to be so small.

I got an e-mail from Battery Gardens and they said they could only do a small reception on a sunday afternoon (11-4), they usually do a minimum of 100ppl on a Friday night and 125ppl on a Saturday night. That's kind of lame that they limit it. I don't really want a dinner reception starting at noon, so that place is pretty much out of the running.

I moved on to a new venue - Giando's. It's actually right down the street from our apartment, which is cool because we've seen this place before. It's right next to the Williamsburg Bridge, which I love, and apparently it's not outrageously expensive, like most places here.

Oh we're in no rush. I'm just looking online at places and seeing what is out there. Since it's NYC, there area TON of places to choose from, so we need to narrow it down to some places we want to look at. If I was in Richmond planning, I wouldn't be as concerned about looking at places because it's not so overwhelming.

Plus, we've been together almost 5 years and we knew we were getting married, just waiting for the ring, so we kind of had already started talking about what we wanted in a wedding and reception.
